Have you been able to check if there's any contamination in the coolant? Have you tried using leak detection dye?

I think it depends on what exactly the damage was. The damage I've seen on some Cat Ds I reckon could go back on the road with no ill effects if repaired properly, whereas I've seen others that would never be quite the same again. I'd personally avoid.
