It's all ways when it's too late isn't it? just went through another speed camera, what's the score with "road angels" and things like that? I remember that you could get them but then they made them illegal or something like that, how ever there's still quite a lot for sale, any one use one and if so do they update with gatso's, static, red light cams and the like, what's the state of play with them and the law at the minute.

Cheers

Can't say I find a need for them these days, i once thought so but with the POI lists on Sat Nav's they have kind of become defunct. Plus alot of them are now becoming SPECS,

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

how ironic, I'd just been to the shop looking at them........ha! took a half day's holiday for a ride to the shops for a spy at them and end up getting gunned.

Thanks for the heads up, I guess I need to revisit the drawing board (or the shops!)

Some one's told me about the speed camera cameralert for android, might grab that.

I'd been looking at them sat navs for ages as well, I made quite a few posts on the best ones and which one to buy and then kept putting off and putting off.....

doh.!

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

road angel plus is the 1 to get it detects speed guns allso gastro cams only thing it cant detect is static camera vans

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

They were branded a "Safety device" to warn you of schools near by and road speeds so the courts deemed them Legal only things banned where the garage door openers that sent the radar guns/traps beam back at it so they where unable to read them.
Lidl or aldi did one called Talek or something that was about £50 and was run and updated by ex traffic cops.

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

buy a tomtom and pay £20 per year for pwgps cams.....set the distance it warns you at , it tells you the cam speed/what type etc .hasn't failed me yet. best buy is older than the tt720 cos the newer ones cant be hacked.

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

i use the tom tom app on iphone(jailbroke).
i dont often have a destination just clear route and it gives me a heads up when approaching fixed gps.
Used to use a snooper when i had my coupe but it was the radar vans that was going to shaft me .
I looked at the garage door option where it shuts there system down but once you have done it once you need to get it stripped from your car which i couldnt be arsed with as theyre sure to follow it up.
Six months to go and got a clean license and with driving a diessel citroen c5 i dont have much fear now.lol

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

i got tomtom on a cheap 8gb ipod touch (jb) then bought a tomtom cradle for it £20

then pocketgpdworld database

pretty awesome

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

Cheers for all the heads up, So is there nothing on the market these days that will do the "static vans" as well as all the other cams etc. or can you not detect the static vans? I thought you could.......years ago any way.....

I'm liking the idea of what phawk posted, as that could just be left in the car all the time, but I guess if I'm going to chip in for one of them then I might as well tie it up with a tomtom, or other Satnav, but then there's all ways the option for my samsung that I have and just do the subscription to pocketgpsworld...... decisions, decisions,

Of course you could always just not speed :D

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

there's all ways one, lol, I been waiting for that, I've often read a post about "speeding" of some sort and then the "brake fairies" jump on it.....;) but yes I agree, I should not have been speeding....should not have any way, the back suspension is about to fall off it....lol

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

only way to defeat the mobile laser vans is to get a jammer.

if you get lucky enough to jam a signal, by law the cops are allowed to come to your house within 2 weeks to check the car

ive read many people rip out the jammer kit from car for 2 weeks untill its safe to put back in.

not worth the hassle tbh

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

Thanks for clearing that up mate with the static vans, and thanks, I'll have a slow drive back to the shops and see what they have.

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

There is one I pass when coming into Wolves near Cannock and it looks not that disimilar, I always forget though and slam on as I get to it...

Re: What's the crack with speed camera detectors these days?

Right going to go to the shops again today (slowly that is!) and i'll have a look at the following, "magnu420" and the like have posted on an old thread that I made saying that "IGO" will go on the RAC and the Binnatone ones.

So i'll try and pick an RAC one up today.

Navigon 40 essential GPS sat nav.
Navigon 20 - same as above but smaller screen and less options.
Binnatone (forgot to write the model number down)
RAC 500
RAC 5000
