just wondering if there is a map update for this works well but I've never updated its around five or six years old ?

Both your Navcore (which is the firmware or software that runs on your tomtom) and your maps are out of date.
There are different navcores for different devices as they are capable of doing different things eg lane guidance. The thing is that the clever people have managed to patch these navcores so that you can get a navcore from a more expensive/sophisticated tomtom working on other versions it wasn't designed for. The problem is that even patched navcores can't work on every other tomtom or with every other version of maps, also older tomtoms are not fast enough to run some navcores without lagging etc so the trick is to marry up a new navcore with a new map pack that works effectively.
Soooooo.... after all that, the good news is you will deffo be able to put a new navcore and map pack on your tomtom but I will need to do some mooching to find which ones. On my One XL I am running navcore 9.485 and maps 905.4754 (UK) so you should be able to jump 2-3 versions of nav/maps also.

Final thing, delete the image of your device above now, I have got what I need and its not a good idea to leave it on show lol
