Hi Everyone.

Have a question that someone may know the answer to.

Does patching a TM receiver make the tuner any less sensitive that using standard software ?

The reason I ask is because I have a 7102HD & like feed hunting.
I wouldn't like to patch if I thought it made the tuner any less sensitive for feed hunting.
Perhaps I would be better off getting a 5014HD or something else, use that for feed hunting & keep the 7102HD for general viewing ?

Like many I am also a member on other forums so don't be surprised if you see this question elsewhere.

Tony.

Hi Tony. Sometimes the best way to find out is to try yourself. If you do patch your box (and there's no harm in doing so) and you find it's less sensitive (which I very much doubt) you can always revert to factory-fit software from TM's own site. What I have found is that certain patches affect how the SS meter behaves, thus giving the impression that the tuner is more sensitive but I've never compared like-with-like on marginal transponders, so can't comment either way.
Do you use both inputs on your 7102?

Hi trevortron.

At the moment I use only one input of the 7102.
I was going to connect the 2nd input to a sly dish so that my partner could watch the free to air from 28.2 east without much bother.
I was also looking at getting another receiver for feed hunting & messing around with. My motorized dish has a twin output lnb fitted so i have a spare feed coming in which I was going to use with the feed hunter receiver.

For serious feed hunting, I'd suggest a second box. Not only will it avoid conflict with the T&S, but AFAIK the 7102 has blind scan issues similar to the 5402. The TM5302 on the other hand has excellent b/s ability and it can safely be patched too, to further enhance the feed-hunting experience.

Whats the difference between the 5302 & 5402.
Is it hardware or just software ?

Both different. 5402 very popular & well supported box, but apparently the 5302 has the better blind scan. NB The new 5402M3 may be better than the M1 & 2 but I can't comment, haven't tried myself & haven't heard either way.

The M3 version of the 5402 does not match its predecessors Tuner sensitivity especially the mark 1 version

Is this down to a different tuner or is it software related ?
I am trying to find the receiver with with the most sensitive tuner for feed hunting but now I'm getting more confused by the minute as to the difference between all the 5302 & 5402 variations

Down to Tuner the early original Mark1 version was made in Korea the Mark2 and later models are all now made in China

Isn't everything nowadays I suppose ?
I suppose its down to between a 5402HD or a later version 5302HD as to availability.
