Hello Guys,

New to the Technomate box and had noticed a lot of people mentioning Blind Scan. Can I ask what the difference between this and a normal scan is? Sorry if I am being a bit supid just wondering what the differences are.

Thanks Guys.

Hello,

A normal scan will go through the transponders which are already in your channel list and scan the satellite(s) for channels on those frequencies only.
A blind scan ignores the transponders in your channel list; it goes through every frequency in can in small steps, hoping to find channels.

A blind scan is therefore much, much slower, and typically only used by people who are looking for unofficial (often temporary) channels
e.g. sports feeds etc.

This is my own understanding anyway - I've never actually done a blind scan!

In a TM machine out of the box, there are transponders for a number of satellites. When you do a normal scan, it will look through these TPs for channels (using FTA, or whatever other filter you choose). Under certain conditions, it will add other TPs as it finds them, and scan these as well.

However, it may not find all TPs, so you have 2 options.

a. Look through a list of all known TPs, such as is updated regularly on Lyngsat.com or other sites, and add them manually

b. Do a blind scan, as Jetsstw says, which may create a large number of TPs, and risk filling your box with unwanted TPs, which you may have to delete one by one. (There are unpublished limits on most TM standard boxes, for the total number of each of TPs and channels, across all satellites).

Hope this helps and if you have more questions, let us know
