OK, so you've got your technomate, you've loaded the latest patch, and you've read all about card sharing. You've done a bit of searching on the subject, read a few things, and now you've got even more questions than when you started.

I'll try my best to keep this simple and short, and will ammend when needed or if something is pointed out to me.

OK, theres 2 main flavours of getting your technomate connected to a server, but both require an internet connection.

If you have a 6800 USB super or a 6900 USB super then you can run an ethernet CAT5 cable direct from your receiver to your router and youre good to go

for ALL other models (1000, 5000usb, 5000usb super series) youll need to connect to your computers COM port with a null modem cable, and have something like WSP (windows sharing pack) installed. this can be downloaded by clicking here.

Now before any of this will work, you need a server to connect to, but first please read the threads here and here, especially page 7, post 64, before you go running around and offering anyone who will offer you a connection all of your personal details just for a few more channels.

Now to find a server, use one of the many internet search engines, there are forums out there that specialise in introducing people looking for servers to people who run servers. Some of these servers are free and may only be online for a few hours offering a hand full of channels, while others have 24/7 support networks, offer a multitude of different packages, and charge a subscription fee. A lot of the subscription based ones will also give a 48 hour test account, some of these charge just a couple of euros for you to see if its what you are after, some will give it for free.

But before you decide to part with hard earned cash, you'd like to try a few free servers, right? Again, google or another search engine is your best freind, and try all the different word combinations you can think of. Free card server, free card sharing, card share trial, etc, etc.

When you start to find servers, youll notice that they have different 'protocols' (or protokol for a lot of them), for this to work on a technomate you MUST have one that uses NewcamD protocol, if you dont, then it wont work.

So you've found a free server to try out, but you've also read so much about free servers being dead, so how will you know if your receiver is setup properly? if the information is entered into your receiver or computer properly? or if the server even exists?

Lets begin :)

Re: How to test if a server is active

So you have your server details, and they look something similar to those in the thread here. But just by looking at it, you dont know if its still alive.

For this ive used 2 of the servers from the linked thread, and one on a local network that I setup for playing with. The addresses of these servers are listed as the HOST and are as follows:

www-sat44-com.dvrdns.org
www-tunisiagbox-net.no-ip.biz
192.168.*.**

now the top 2 servers youll notice are www- and not www.

the - has to be replaced with a . EXCEPT in the no-ip part, to make a real address followed by the dns redirector address (no-ip, dyndns, dvrdns, etc, etc)

first we'll get everything ready to test a server, to do this youll need a computer connected to the internet (not as obvious as it sounds, you may be reading this on a mobile phone, PDA, set top box) and im writing this assuming you're using windows

click your windows START button
Now click run

start.JPG

and youll see the following window appear, in this window type cmd as shown and press enter or click OK

run.jpg

the following DOS window will now open

cmd.JPG

and you are now ready to start testing if the servers you have found are still active

Re: How to test if a server is active

So we have the addresses of our servers, and a DOS window open. To test the servers we are going to send a small packet of data to it, and see if it replys, this is called a ping.

So in your DOS window, type ping followed by a space then the server address and press enter. Next you will see one of 3 things, either no reply at all, indicating an offline server, this doesnt mean that its totally dead or gone for good (but this is probably the case) but its not online while you are trying it. You may receive a partial reply, this could indicate a VERY busy server which may be prone to overcrowding, or you could receive a 100% successfull reply, this however does not guarantee that everything will be fine if you choose to log onto it.

A dead, or non responsive server will give the following reply/results. All of the information sent was lost and no reply was received back.

A partial reply will look like this. Showing that half the information was lost or not replied to, this could be due to the server being too busy at the time of the request, which could also mean that key requests from your receiver could fail at the same rate

dodgey.JPG

Or you could receive a 100% reply. The address in this window is a random supplier of share subscriptions, this is how a healthy online server should respond

Ok, so you have your receiver connected to your router or PC and connected to the internet, you now also know if you have an active server to connect to, lets get you connected :)

Re: How to test if a server is active

OK, if we start with the 68/6900Super series of technomates, pressing 8281 on the remote will bring up the screen as shown below, most of the details have been blanked out on this, but its connected via the internet to an M2+ card and clearing DiscoveryHD on thor 1W

spa0009ww4.jpg

now using free server details that we found on the net, and testing to see if the server is still alive as shown above, we now need to enter the details into the technomate menu to actually connect

ART - SHOWTIME - NOVA
PROTOKOL : NewCamd5.25
HOST : astra1.dyndns.org
DESKEY : 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14
USER : wab1 ---- wab5
PASS : wab11 ----- wab15
PORT : 5000 - 5001
CAID : 0604 - 0604

at the top of the TM menu, is NAME, now while this is not listed in the details we have found, sometimes one of the details will say SERVER, this is what goes next to name, but in this case it can be left blank

next is protocol, at the moment on the TM this cannot be changed from newcamd, so you have to find newcamd protocol servers to connect to, this is shown on our server details under PROTOKOL

next on the TM menu is ID, in our server details, this is listed as USER, any detail from wab1, wab2, wab3, wab4 or wab5 can be entered here

the next line on the TM is password, on the server details this is listed as PASS. now if for user you used wab1, then for password youll have to use wab11, if you used wab2 then your password will be wab12, user wab3 will be password wab13, wab4 will have the password wab14 and wab5 will be with wab15. mixing these will ensure that you dont get connected as the user names and passwords have to match at the server youre connecting to

the next line on the TM menu is adderss, this is listed in the free server details as HOST, this is also the address you used to 'ping' the server to check if its active

next is PORT, again, this is listed as PORT in the server settings, some servers work on more than one port if they offer the share of more than one card, you will need to setup a new menu for each port, highlighting NAME at the top of the TM menu and pressing left or right allows you to scroll through 4 pages of server details

next is the DES KEY and this is listed in the server details as DES-KEY, this can be entered directly by using the number buttons on your remote control

once all these are entered correctly, press the yellow button and the bottom of the screen should change to CONNECTED and show the type of encryption the card you are connected to can deal with

Re: How to test if a server is active

If using a 1000, 3000 or 5000 series technomate, youll need to install WSP on your computer (link above) and have your receiver connected via a null modem cable as well

once your receiver is connected, and youve downloaded and unpacked WSP into its own folder, your ready to begin entering the details to connect to a server that youve already tested as above to see if its still alive

first off, start the programme by double clicking the WSP.exe file, when it starts itll all be in polish, click the drop box on the left and change to english, and youre ready to enter the details

Re: How to test if a server is active

Now everything is in english, where you have the tuner 1 tab, the 1st drop box needs to be RS, the next one Humax (SSSP) and the port needs to be the port that your null modem cable connects to your PC on

on server 1 on the right, protocol needs to be newcamd, like the server details, the address is the HOST from server details, and the port is the port number thats supplied with the host details.

login and password are USER and PASSWORD, again these need to match up as explained above for the 68/900 series, if they dont match at the server end, you wont connect

towards the bottom, click advanced, then highlight DES KEY, and next to Server1 enter the DESKEY supplied with the server details

you can setup 4 server connections in this way, but can only actually use one at a time

Re: How to test if a server is active

once all of the details are entered, click 'start' for tuner1, the software will now connect to your receiver. under server1 click start, and youll see an amber square appear, this should now turn green, indicating that you are connected to the server, if it goes red, then either one of the details has been entered wrongly, or the server is dead, but if you pinged it as detailed above then its probably a small detail

Just to add to Digidude excellent tutorial (I wish I had this when I 1st had my Technomate 1600!)

Just make sure that the server you are using, is the same selected in the advanced options.

wspky0.jpg

As you can see server 2 is being used (top arrow), so you must select server 2 in providers server (bottom arrow) or it wont work.

If you then add another server (server 3/top arrow). When you use this server you have to change the radio button to server 3 (bottom arrow)

at the moment its not possible m8, but this is something that is being looked into, knowledge of port forwarding WILL be required to achieve this though

Hi Guys, very good explanation on the card server setup.

I've got a TM5200D and a new TM6900 super Combi HD, looking forward to giving them both a try.

Many thanks for the hard work you have put into the info thread.
