Have been looking at the specs on this and it seems to fit the bill. I want a receiver that will record more than one channel at a time while allowing me to watch another. This says it will do that off one cable with two channels while I watch another, is that right? At present I have an Openbox S10 which does its job, but the epg is s***te and very frustrating. As I am new to this scene I have been reading a lot and realise this is not open source, like Dreambox, but neither is the Openbox.

Would I be better going for another make of twin tuner or this one. I know there is a new twin Technomate tuner due out, but this seems miles better for the price. Next question can this be used for CCcam. What other software can go on it and is it possible to get a decent epg like Dreamboxes crosspeg? What is the picture like on these in HD and normal mode and is channel change fast?

Hope these questions are ok to ask and its in the right section, apologies if not.

:licka::proud:

edit another thing I noticed, there are not many of these for resale on fleabay. This suggests people seem to keep them, are they really that good?

It does look a decent box and Cccam will work fine . Also I think you can only record channels from the same tp you are looking at you want be able to record ie itv when ur watching BBC . I'm saving money for the new dm 800 se looks the dogs bs .

so could you record one satellite channel while watching another or is that you can record itv while watching satellite or vice versa. Is the new DM800 SE dual channel? Forgive my ignorance, what is a tp? Do you mean three programs on the same channel that you can record? If so this will not do what I want.

If you really want to record and watch at the same without bothering all the details you need a DUAL tuner satelliet receiver
So what do you need ?
A dish with a TWIN LNB
2 cables running from your dish towards your satellite receiver
A dual Tuner Satellite Receiver
TM7102HD
DM8000HD

Not
tm5402HD
DM800HDse

If you don't know what transponders are you must be a beginner in 'the land of satellite'.
A transponder is a detailed defined frequency, MHZ Polarity Symbolrate FEC on that defined frequency we can have multiple channels encoded (digital). I think this method is called 'multiplexing'. as we can then have more channels one 1 given defined freq. (it is very expensive you know). Anyway I could ramble ages about all the data and schemes ...

Those channels are unique identified by their VIDEO PID / AUDIO PID and PCR and some more 'data'...

So what does this mean for a single tuner satellite recorder stating it can record while watching a channel on the same transponder ?
This means it can record a channel in a given frequency setup(transponder) and at the same it can show those channels that reside on that transponder while recording.
It cannot go outside that transponder while recording so the satellite receiver will give you the channels you can watch while the recording is running.

When You have a dual tuner setup you don't have that problem.(of course more expensive)

I hope this clarifies a bit ?

ADMIN, can we move this to the TM non-linux section ?
