I notice that the hard drive still spins when the box is in standby, is this hardware or could it be controlled with the software to shut it down when in standby.

Cheers Derek

I think it should shut down, maybe there is a setting somewhere in a menu.
There is the option on some hard drives to update the software inside the drive to make it quieter or save power - this is the case with my Tivo which stays on all the time but you can load different firmware on the drive to make it quieter.

Find out what hard drive is fitted and see their website for any software that might change the settings.

Good luck,
Keith.

not sure if you've tried but, i think there's a standby power option for HDD in
Settings > System > Memory > Extra.

i haven't tried it to see if it works though, and don't have hdd connected to internal power at the moment.

Cheers not noticed that menu, but does not seem to be working, change settings and save but when you come out of menu then go back in the setting as reverted back, its not saved change

Cheers Derek
