Ive had problems setting my TM up as a static IP to get a internet connection in expert comms setup.

People are telling me my vermin belkin router and connection is the problem but after a few reads on tuts etc I know other people are using belking routers no problems.

So can someone please give a quick basic tut on setting a TM to a static IP
I have a belkin router and can get in the router setting no problem but?????

Do I have to disable the password are what

how do I make the TM a static ip

a quick tut will do Im not totally thick (lol) ish but there doesnt seem to be any help with this in the stickys and its the thing Ive had trouble with setting up?

any help dooods how to I get an internet connection on my TM box

if you have it working just untick DHCP in LAN settings and it will become static on that i.p

or if you have lots of things on your network change the last two digits of the top line in LAN to a higher number, so you won't get conflicts,
e.g mine is
"192.168.1.24"
if you want to be even more sure not to get conflicts go into your router and change DHCP range to be below your TM i.p.

also you shouldn't need any password or anything if your connecting over wired lan direct to router...

i had a really hard time gettin my tm600 to recognise that it actually did have an internet connection, ok i had a rather unorthodox internet set up, but in the comms set up page on tm600 in the nameserver field put the actual dns server address for your internet provider instead of the routers home page address, this is what i did and it was the only way the box would recognise that it was really online, interesting point to note is that the dsteam image didn't have this problem, but i just didnt like the image..

you dont need a static ip,

set address reservation in the router for your tm, ie: 192.168.1.7 is the addy your router gives the tm, there should be an option in the router to set that addy reserved for the tm. then when it boots it will get that same ip from the router.

then set up a dyndns account online if its for c/s.

thats what i did and im using dhcp with my router, works fine and i dont have any issues.

if its just for a net connection you shouldnt need a static either but if you want your box to have the same ip, address reservation in the router settings is your friend (if your router has that option).

Thanks for the input everyone cheers I managed to get a connection with your advice just having a mess with different images now cheers peoples :proud:
