first impressions are that its in the same case as the 9100, but looks good in black, and is identical to the TM-500 at a glance, untill you open the flap or look at the back

front
its got one card reader
4 digit green LED display, acts as clock in standby
power button
menu button
exit button
^ v < > and OK buttons
USB port
all hidden behind a flap that the display shines through

back
lnb in and loop thru
rf loop thru and modulator
modem port (ive never seen these used on a dreambox or nothing)
ethernet port
optical out
USB port
component video outputs
stereo outputs
CVBS video output
serial port
and a power connector and switch

the power supply is internal, with lots of room to keep it cool

this model also has an internal USB port for fitting an internal USB powered drive, there is also a molex power connector, but no ide

the remote is a similar design to the 1000/5000/3000 remotes, and not too many buttons like the 9100 one has

ill have a good play over the next few days, upload more pics and give a more detailed report

looks ok how much?just looked on techno site if under 90 quid thats a bargain, and i think what a lot of people have been waiting for

the important question is the images...... whos producing them, if the major developers dont jump on board then it may flop like the TM9100.

do we know who the potential developers are?

Hardware wise it looks very good for the price.
However if the software isnt decent I wouldnt touch it with a stick.
Hard to beat the support that Dreamboxes have.

out of the box, it seems very stable, with an underground resistance image on it, and preloaded with Cccam 2.0.11 as the default startup cam

other cams, skins, settings, plugins etc available via a blue button panel

that answered that then, nothing wrong with 9100 support in my opinion

I also think the support was ok, its was only the hardware that let it down. If its the same image team I only hope these new receivers have little else in common with the tm9100. TBH i think even using the same style case is a poor decision. I will reserve judgments though until I've had experience with them, because its unfair to brand it based on a previous poor model. :)

i was shocked to see the 9100 case, i was expecting a small box 'a la 500 esque' or something

when the 9100 first came out, it was VERY unstable, i was running 3 of them in the house, and they were a nightmare, in the end i sold 2, and the one i kept has recently failed to be flashed, so i think thats died a death lol

but on the same note about the size, they look a hefty bit of kit, not like something that might break or overheat if you sit it too close to the dvd player or xbox lol

Can you tell me what the memory is in the 600PVR ??

The UR image is solid on the tm9100, I know cause thats what I have. The latest CCcam211 is also more stable and hasn't caused a single reboot either.

Im trying to find out how like a dream it is, or if its a tm9100 (as well as appearence) with top card reader, memory card slot and cam slot replaced with USB slots.

As for fitting a USB hard disk , there are 500gb disks for £50, but how does it cope with a hub, will it detect things in a usb hub and allow these to become stacked?

Thanks

the 600 only has one card slot, but has an rs232 so a pheonix could be connected for a 2nd one, id imagine a smargo usb reader could be used as well, but dont have one to test

there seems to already be some sort of hub built in to it, as it recognises the 3 ports, even with nothing connected, then whatever one you plug into becomes usb1

it has no memory card slots

if using an internal usb drive, then it looks like a usb powered 'pocket drive' would be the best option, unless you connect an IDE-USB convertor onto a drive and use the internal molex connector, im waiting for one of these adaptors to see if the drive is recognised. the receiver comes with a 'patch' of sticky velcro to stick a small drive to the internal caddy

ive tried connecting a small usb hub to see if drives connected to that are recognised, and neither the drives or the hub registers in any of the onscreen menus

Thanks for that,

I had thought that the USB would not be stackable as it isn't is some linux setups, also so use naming for the ports when a hub is involved like usbdev(version)_ep(some number - usually 00, 02 or 81) notable in /dev makes configuring them with cams or plugins awkward. As this is in a read only flash sector, adding is not possible unless /var/dev is added to the paths. If you could get an extra hub involved, usb devices then don't take the usual names like ttyUSB0 so map different every reboot or un/plug in. Curiosity is to put a symlink in /dev and move it to a writeable area and see if it then can add a hub... However there seems to only in house cdk at the moment like the itgate... The avaliable one is near a year old. Support would be a lot better if it were available. The tuxbox repo for the dream cdk is updated nearly daily.

If you plugin a memory stick and a hard disk, then you'll be limited to 1 USB for a smargo... Seems to me that there is no advantage (other than a USB stick than a camera type card over the 9100 with 2 card readers already. As you have to pay extra to expand the 600, it'll probably cost more than the 9100 when you add a smargo and a USB stick. I'd lay money on the Pheonix not working on the serial port like the tm9100. The tm9100 also has the CI slot......

Its all in my external view the advantage then depends on internal memory... Is it the same as the 9100 super?? reliability of the image is not anymore an issue on the tm9100.

Im not saying its a bad box, its probably good. The tm9100 is now rock solid with UR18. I want another box just because of desire, but im struggling to see an actual advantage here... Its looking like a sales tactic because the 9100 has a bad reputation more than anything else..

Its a good option though if upgrading from a standard non linux box though.

are you sure about this m8?

when the 9100 was first out and unable to read a certain uk providors card, i wrote a config for newcs that not only allowed it to work, but to also work in either slot and be shared, just after this i played with the config some more, and in my own boxes in the house, i had one of them with a uk providors card, a digitalb card and a gamma card for nova in a pheonix, all useable from any one of 4 boxes around the house

this was when UR10beta2 was the latest stable image though, so id imagine that it not working is down to config errors.

my 9100 has been off for repair and is waiting for me to collect it, once i get it back, ill double check this with UR18, but i know it worked with UR10b2

Im not 100% sure of this no. But never came across it working before. I'll eat my words - LOL

Im gonna look for your file as a lot of people i know have 9100's and have not got this working but have on their other machines (DMs). Im not interested in getting it working for the UK card, but would like to add a 4th card to my machine. I already use the 2 slots and the cam. If you got this working on the tm9100 then I can't see that the same config wont work on the 600PVR.

What would be handy is if a developer would symlink dev to a writeable part of the flash and see if the linux kernel will add a hub. At the moment it cant because I believe it cant write to the read only flash. Stacking hubs would then make this a very attractive option. (just try it in a test image, has to be done at build time)
Just think of the possibilities then, no just smargo, but external memory, pen drives. hard disks etc. You could really build a good media centre without the need for a pc in the network.

I still cant seem to find out the memory from any forum. You only have to type "free" in telnet to see it, and "top" to see whats in use by individual processes. Is it 16, 32 or 64mb ?

its a known bug in the image that the team writing the image are aware of, should be sorted out in the next release m8
