I know the various models of receivers listed under SH4, but WTF does SH4 mean?

I believe its the processor.

SuperH Version4.

Think Hitachi used to make them (Hence the 'H') but it was spun off a while ago. The original Pace boxes had SuperH processors I think.

Cheers Nozzer.

I always assumed it reffered ot the CPU, but after bit of Googlin' I found that the boxes tend to use a 250 - 350Mhz PPC - same as the Dreambox.

must be some sort of difference as i was under the same impression. SH4 can play divx files though but the dm800 cant

SH4 is a microprocessor aka CPU. 32 bit RISC architecture. So a SH4 based machine is a machine with its main processor as a SH4 core.
