GUIDANCE ON THE EXAM:
The exam is set out in this format:

1. Cable calc.
2. Cable/cpc calc.
3. Question from either parts 1 or part 3.
4. A scenario question, wants your point of view.
5. All from part 52.
6. A scenario question, wants you point of view.
7. A scenario question, wants you point of view.
8. Appendix 4.
9. Test and inspection.
10. A scenario question, wants your point of view.

You really need to nail the calculations, if you can nail down the formula and finish off the calculations quick enough then you will have time for the rest of the exam.

Show all your workings out, it is really important that you show each step of your calculation and how you reached the final answer, the point is that even if you mess it up and you make a mistake you will only lose a few marks as the formula will be solid.

Never copy the reg's down in an answer, they are looking for your interpretation of the regs.

Always write down the regulation number, this will show them that you are looking in the right location.

Be vary careful of some of the scenario questions, some of them are designed to make sure you are paying attn, I would not say trick you out, however, certainly some of the questions are sneaking in little pot holes in the actual question.

NOTES:
The C&G 2396 electrical design exam is 3 hours and has 10 questions, you might think 3 hours for 10 questions is a long time but you will soon find out that you need to explain your answers using the Reg's. and that time will run down very quickly. If you do not know an answer go to the next one and so on then IF you have time go back to the questions you have not answered.

City and Guilds are not looking for copy of the regulations, they are looking for your interpretation and ability to use the Following Non Statutory Books

IET BS 7671
IET Onsite Guide
Guidance Note 3
Guidance Note 1

If you are an Electrical Designer or planning to be, you should own these books and be competent at using them.
