Why is it that so many places offer discounts for Students, but fcuk all for the Unemployed/ HardUP??

Do what I do.
I have a family member that's a student. Every Christmas she comes with me doing my shopping. Places that take student discount is always on radar.

Pick what you wanting then use it on student card.
I saved £70 just last month.
House of Frazier was a great saving.

Lol, i wasn't looking for discounts myself. Just always thought it was a bit unjust regarding other people who had fallen on hard times.

Thanks anyway :)

I would suppose it's easier to prove your a genuine student and they usually have the dispensable income to spend on the items that are usually offered in places that give student discount.

I'm probably going to do a part-time masters at some point, I hope discount is extended to part-timers :). Although I don't think there were many places I used to shop in offering discount.

Don't the unemployed have some sort of card?

The problem would be working out who is unemployed through choice or through circumstance.

IMHO unemployment benefits should be paid in vouchers with specific product groups being excluded!

@t3rminal

I totally agree with you on the vouchers. Food/ gas/ electric/ water.
I know a few junkies on the sick. Soon as they get their money, the wank it all on drugs. It's totally ridiculous giving full DLA in cash to a fcuking junkie and expecting them to be able to spend it wisely on necessity's.

Your at the wind up there . The unemployed get a hard enough time as it . If your looking to fix that problem the you should be looking further up the chain . Biggest con that was ever sold and bought by the general public is that the unemployed are responsible for the countries troubles , but that's for another thread

Yeah, let's really take the piss out of the unemployed. Have them queue in a vouchers only aisle so the whole world knows their circumstances. I can just imagine the young girl on the checkout shouting "Are they allowed this item on voucher?"

You may one day find yourself unemployed. Wonder if you would think differently if it happened.

My problem is (and has been seen by myself in a previous job) when you are in people's houses who are unemployed and they have new TVs, laptops, games consoles etc but they can't even provide a bed frame or sheets for their children. Just a mattress and duvet on the floor!

For the record, i was only referring to addicts on the sick (not general unemployed)

They're not doing them any favours giving them money.

my daughter is a social worker my son a Jnr doctor and the stories I've heard from both. Are scary and most ain't from the unemployed . I've seen horror stories from both well off and poor familes with my own eyes . You have been conditioned by the media to think unemployed means scrounger . Lower class . Open your eyes

Maybe they're secretly hoping to build customer loyalty with the students so that when they get a job they'll still come back and pay the full amount.
