Has anybody had any dealings with this company?. My Dad bought a brand new corsa in 2009 complete with extended warranty for piece of mind or was it?. It was annual service and Mot time and it went to Arnold Clark yesterday please bear in mind he hardly uses it and it has 4000 miles on the clock. After waiting for these feckers to come and pick the car up at 8.00 am yesterday morning as arranged they arrived at 10.30. After keeping this car all day until 7.00pm the garage came to the conclusion that it needed 4 tyres @80.00 per corner (Continental tyres). It doesn't end there, they are now trying to say the sump is damaged as well. I smell a rat here. I am going down at dinner today to give them a piece of my mind and to tell them to stick there warranty up there arse. Be very wary of this company everyone they are great when you buy a car but there after service sucks.:Angryfire

4 tyres after 6 years is reasonable irrespective of millage as they degrade with age. The cracked sump would not be a warranty issue as more likely caused by striking something underneath the car. its a garages job to keep the car safe for use mate

Tyres sound dear to me but the sump must have been smacked or had corrosion of some kind . As said wouldn't be covered more than likely .

Agreed, you can get good quality tyres for a Corsa cheaper than that. The garage is probably charging a premium.

Mind you, I've got a 2009 Astra 1800cc Coupe that still has the original rear tyres and sailed through its MOT last month.

They fitted a brand new tyre last year for him. It is minimum legal limit now??. Like I said I smell a rat and I don't mean Admin on here. :(

Update: had it on the ramps and the tyres are almost brand new nearly with 7 mm of tread on them. The sump was not needed it was the sump nut seal that was broke. Question 1 if this seal was broke why did they replace the oil and put the old nut back on? Question 2 did the engine oil ever get changed?.

Definitely smells fishy. Arnold Clark that is....

What reason did they give for saying it needed tyres?
I would collect names etc and fire an email off to sir Arnold Clark mention trading standards bbc watchdog etc etc as this is totally unexeptable well done for going down @miggy

£80 each for tyres is a total rip off. Mind you it does depend on the Quality and Make of said tyres. Best to check the make etc and then compare prices. Sump damage can also be caused without you knowing. Going over a speed bump etc. Whilst the car may not show any ill affects a look can reveal dents etc. You are entitled to ask for all old parts too so it might be a good idea to check that too.

better to contact Vauxhall and make a complaint.

Many years ago i put a company car in for a repair and the service i got was awfull, one of the mechanics and the service desk person were almost fighting in the carpark, real nasty.
anyways i got a call from Vauxhall customer service, they knew my car had been at the garage in question and ask for feedback.

I gave an "in depth" account of what had happened, vauxhall were not impressed at all.

I don't know what happened in the background, but i got treated like royalty any time i used the garage afterwards.. :)

When I worked in a main dealers as parts advisor we replaced the sump plug washer on nearly every service. They do not cost much.

That's true, tyre finishing products can make the rubber sensitive to UV, and that is when you can get the cracks to form.
However in reality you can find rubber can degrade faster if the car is parked up in the same position as the weight is on one portion of the tyre.
As an example, on a caravan they advise replacing the tyres every 7 years due to UV.
The cracks create weekness and could cause a blowout.

In terms of pricing for replacements try Camskill, Black circles or eTyres.

If it passed the mot then they can't be to bad , the washer on the other hand is naughty , the lads get bonuses the find extra work , sumps is a very easy change on these ,, there hunting for work , l service lots of vauxhalls as because l use there oils and filters the warranty is ok , but they have to see their once a year for the life time warranty tho , but none of my customers have had a problem because we services them , take it somewhere else next time , any vat registered garage can service it

Gotta agree, some of that deco stuff they paint on tyres can cause problems with the sun and cracks can appear. So as for the tyres ? , just say no thanks and take it to a independant tyre place and ask for their opinion and if you don't need new tyres then you'll you have some ammo when writing off to Arnold Clark HQ.

Big tip:- everything in writing , , , , everything

Would they not recommended a tyre change due to their age??

I've just renewed the tyres on my caravan (bit different I know) due to age, 2007. It was recommended by the service engineer.

The tyre had thick tread on them and there was no sign of wear at all.

garages and tyre depots are a nightmare . If we get our van tyres changed the tyre depot (I wont name them lol) has to send the report to or fleet management co. If any are under legal limit the FMC report it to our fleet admin then our branch manager and we get chewed (rightly so) but on 2 occaisions they have misreported tread depths as 0mm and I got chewed the first time. The 0 mm was on the outside wall not 3 span treads. but they reported as 2 3 0 . On the second occasion I took photos when it was up on their ramp and when I got pulled I could show the treads were good but outsides were at 1mm. Now according to the tyre place that is not illegle as long as there are no cords are showing. Our company are good in the fact they let us change at 3mm so there is no need for them to misreport. They need watching....
