Really p****s me off, particularly when I see lorry drivers doing this. I seem to see it more and more - or am I just getting old

Not old, You just have a functioning brain.

The brain-dead morons who do this should lose their license...permanently!

all do it about here

seriously never a traffic cop when you want one

There is no excuse for it now, hands free kits have become reasonably priced now. They should invest in one for all our sakes.

i totally agree, ive got parrot asteroid in the car, but also an excellent car mode app that automatically blocks text and replies saying im driving and will receive the msg when im finished, if its important call as im on hands free. I can set up any msg i want.
if its that important pull the hell over.

A friend of mine has just lost her licence after being caught driving /talking on mobile "again".
(We all warned her). :)

whats the difference then, lorry driver/car driver/coach driver?
they all text and if they hit yous its a very similar result.
get off the backs of lorry drivers, they are as bad/same as other drivers. no worse no less.

sorry double post

I agree a crash is a crash, however, I would rather be involved with a daewoo matiz hitting me as opposed to a fully loaded lorry/bus. Careless drivers of larger vehicles such as lorries and buses stand to kill a few more people in a pile up. Don't get me wrong driving any lethal weapon, including cars and texting/browsing is bad news

the biggest problem is they bring in all these new laws and yet there is no one to enforce them, I drive artics and it seems its across the board all different types of drivers. there is nothing I haven't seen, yet a traffic cop is rare.

You get a feeling all these laws are only there as a 'money maker' and not necessarily to save lives. Why implement laws you can hardly enforce?

a) To suggest that the law against mobile phone use when driving is there to make money rather than save lives is nonsensical and an insult to those who have lost loved ones as a result of this criminal behavior.

b) A bit of Googling will reveal that the number of prosecutions for this offence is significant. To suggest that the law can hardly be enforced is just plain wrong.

Saw program on telly a while back where motorway cops have an artic tractor unit just drive up n down the motorway looking for lorry drivers on fone, they pull up along side watching the lorry driver on fone, then flash the badge, priceless... Oh sh1t I just nearly ran a red light while texting this lol

even worse when u see snapchat videos coming thru and obviously taking a pointless vid of the song that is on the radio whilst in the driving seat......fricking erse!

My other half works for a company that has instant dismissal for anyone caught using a mobile phone in a company vehicle. every company should have this policy

Am I the only one that thinks all that cars should include a factory fitted kit that makes it impossible to use a mobile phone, with an exception for 999 calls?

Awful idea, with a call blocker as such then your passengers won't be able to make perfectly legal calls, mobile data would become useless (this is something i hammer with waze and google play music - saves my cds from being destroyed in the car).

I do think though all cars with a stereo system should be fitted as standard with a basic bluetooth system.
Although you still see people using the phone in the car whilst driving its heading the same way as drink driving, more antisocial it becomes the less people who will do it.
I think they need to make it even less attractive to use the phone whilst driving, first offence £500 fine, second offence 6 month ban, third time 24 month ban. Something like this may actually stop people using them.

Yes but who would Police it? There aren't enough Police on the street or Motorways to address it with all the cuts to the countries forces. I reckon on my 30 min commute to work each evening at a rough guess at least 1 in 30-40 cars is either on phone or looking down texting. More routine now and can spot most a mile away ( Usually hogging middle lane). 8 times out of 10 it's a BMW or Audi or Merc that I'm pretty sure has Bluetooth fitted.
