God I hate those parasites that work there, anyway, just in from work and there's a letter from the DVLA, so I open it thinking it was for my Road Tax but I know it's not due for a few months yet. Anyway, it's a demand for £20, for a new f*****g photo for my driving licence as it's coming up on 10 years since I got the last one. When the f**k did that come in? I don't remember them saying anything when I passed my driving test over 20 years ago or when they brought out the photo driving licence. Talk about rip off Britain, it's money for old rope. I still look the same as I did when I got the bloody thing 10 years ago, I haven't aged that badly :proud:

same reason why you have to renew your passport after ten yrs mate ..its supprising just how much you do change in 10 yrs ...also thats why kids up to 16 have to renew your passport every 5 yrs ..but agree why do we have to pay for it again..think they call it admin charges lol

i have to pay the £20 form them to print out my counter part with all points removed, it's one piece of paper for gods sake, ok if it was hand calligraphed but no a bloody machine spews them out.

Thats Why me and the mrs kept our paper licences, the one she has is falling to bits but she isn't going to change it. :)

believe it or not you dont actually have to pay for an updated photo card...

as you still have a valid licence. its just the photo card that expires..

and they cant legally chase you for it either.

if you dont believe me just phone them up...

I always thought it was illegal to still have the old paper licence?

I don't know who told You that, but I've had to produce it and never had a problem.
They don't issue them anymore if that's what You mean.

the photo bit is only cosmetic, they always want the other bit with all your details on. So showing youe photo is no good, always other bit required,

Got to renew every 10 years, section 4a on the front of your license will tell you when it needs renewing.

I have read somewhere that it is illegal to drive once your photocard photo has expired. I think it was on the news some time ago. I think the letters are a new thing as so many people were being caught out. I mean who is going to look at section 4a everyday on the front of your card.

Read that too, if you get stopped when your photo licence has expired you can get done for driving without a licence. Lot of people getting caught out.

Well that's wrong for a start, the letter that came with the form says and I quote "You must by LAW get a new photo to update your photocard licence every 10 years. If you don't renew your photo, you will be breaking the law and may have to pay a fine of up to £1000" So if you don't re-apply they automatically assume you are no longer driving and your licence expires/suspended. I still think it's all BS, the nanny state gone mad. :Angryfire Anyway the only reason I ever got a photocard licence was because my old mum accidently washed the paper one I had, if that hadn't happened I most likely still have the old paper one.
