I am fuming with the Royal Mail.

Do they make it their aim to employ people who simply do not give a shit about how to do their job properly?

On friday, I was off. I was expecting quite a bit of post and knew that at least one part would be signed for. So, at 1400 (this is when the first post normally turns up) doorbell rings and I go to answer, which takes me about two seconds. The ticket for a missed delivery was already through the letter box and when I open the door the postie is off down the road.

So, I call her back and she tells me that: "I only rang the doorbell to let you know you missed a delivery". right, thats logic for you isnt it?? So I get my post from her, including a rather important looking envelope for a completely different address. I call her back again and give it to her saying its not for me and she says it must be. I point out the different addresses and she goes off in a huff.

Now, on saturday my post arrived at about 1600, this is early for the first post on a saturday, normally we get it around 1700 or monday. In it is a photo I have been waiting on. Its shipped in a stiff envelope with a sticker on it saying "PLEASE DO NOT BEND" and also requires a signature. So waht does the postie do? Bends it in half and puts it through the letter box and slips my the card saying I missed a post?!?!? So again, I open the door to speak to a guy this time. He says "Oh, sorry. I didnt know you had to sign for that one". I asked him, so which did you think I had to sign for, which totally confused him. I also asked him if he realised that the letter with the photo was stiff on purpose, and that the "PLEASE DO NOT BEND" sticker was there for a reason.

The tosser stayed quiet and backed away around the corner. Now I cant even phone the office untill monday and I am fuming!

This is the season for missed delivery tickets. Quite often they don't even bother to bring the items with them, just the tickets.

unfortunately, its like that for most of the year in Edinburgh. Past excuses from the Royal Mail have been "its the start of the new tax year, so we are busy" or, "its the festival, so we are busy" etc.

I just wish they had proper competition when it comes to the domestic service.

Royal mail are useless the recently 'lost' some dvd's which I posted - recorded delivery!!

waiting for a parcel that was posted over a week ago recorded delivery,i also sent a letter recorded delivery to someone and that took a week, both frist class recorded

Like I said, I wish they had proper competition - then they might get their act together...

Used to be a posty in Edinburgh mate, and I know all about being a lazy b******d and not giving a toss lol. it’s a shame but its also why royal mail is in the state it’s in. employees don’t give a shit about the job, managers that either don’t know what they’re doing or have their hand tied when they want to implement any changes cause the republic army or otherwise known as union threatens to strike cause the loo roll is no longer the softest on the big fat arses or some other pathetic excuse to have a holiday. keep in mind that all the full time union reps have been released from the duties from royal mail so they can be full time reps for the union(and still have the wages paid by rm) are the only ones that are paid when they go on strike? every time I speak to anyone who I used to work with the all say the same thing "you go out just in time" or " it’s the best thing you could have done" which I’m not sure I really enjoyed the job had a great working relationship with my managers just could not stand all the back stabbing and political shit that went with the job. I would have said try their web site for making a complaint but that’s a joke as well I just tried to see what would happen? I typed in the search box "make a complaint" and it came back with Do you mean: What if I have an enquiry about something not shown here? My answer is: If you've got a Royal Mail question you can't find the answer to, please get in touch. yet they don't give you a number to call just loop you round and round lol quality service again royal mail.
End of the day you will not get any joy with them mate, they will just fob you off. try but your just wasting your time, good luck.

Unfortunately you are right I am afraid. Prehistoric things like unions do tend to get in the way of the Royal Mail actually working correctly.

I will go in to the office tomorrow and wait at the desk until someone comes to speak to me, its absolutely ridiculous that they think this is good service. I mean, I lived out in the sticks for a few years in England. The postie had to drive a landrover to get to me - but I still got my mail at a decent time.

for several years I have sent everythign SD - sending stuff RD just makes it more likely it will be nicked - and normal post is a joke - your lucky if it turns up at all - it comes to soemthign when even bills dont turn up lol

i must be one of the lucky one's then my postman is exellent, even if im not in i still get my recorded stuff he leaves it with next door for me, coundn't ask for such a nicer chap.

Well, in the defence of the Royal Mail, we have four regular posties. One is very nice and always turns up before 0900 - which is a bonus. He is an older chap and from speaking to him he has been doing this for years.

Unfortunately our postie changes every two weeks between the four that do this area.

i used to be a postie in bolton......i hated to leave forms for recorded because if the reciever was not in,i would have tot carry the item round the whole way !!
i used to sign them myself, and leave in a safe place (with a message behind the door).
I know some posties would just bring the form and leave the packet at the office.
Also Recorded deliveries is a POOR service and is nowhere near as quick as standard first class !!
Registered is far superior...

As far as I know, only at christmas time.

all the time mate, "casual staff" the used to call them lol. about 8 years ago we had a lad that was taken on for "Christmas pressure" period usually about 2-3 weeks before chrimbo, anyway he applied to a advert for staff the cover floor managers positions during annual and sick leave surprise, surprise the guy got the job. he was then trying tell other full time posties how to do there jobs. the funnest thing was he ended up being one of the better managers in the mail center.every royal mail manger i ever come across was a ex postman, not one came into the job with any kind of managerial experience ?

Same at Parcelforce whom I work for. All the managers at my depot are ex delivery drivers with no managerial qualifications or previous managerial experience, they just know how to deliver parcels and piss people off. We recently had a questionaire asking what we thought about the place was run and about comms and bullying etc.... the average for depot was around 50-60% of people were happy with the way things are. I have seen parcels in the cages we get that clearly say on "Fragile" or "Please dont put anything heavy on top" right at the very bottom. From experience the workers dont give a shit becuase the managers are shit.

I am shocked, I would have thought the moronic Unions would have put a stop to that pronto!
