Hi

I asked 3 for mt PAC Code in january as I was signing up with Virgin, due to getting a better deal by takiing a new number I didn't use the code, I then received a bill in from 3 in the beginning of March at which point I was straight on the phone to cancel and have a right go at them cause I had no clue why I had received the bill.

It tuns out that not using this code reinstates the account (I wasn't told this on the call) and apparently I had been sent a text with this info on it but as I was now using another phone, I diidn't ever see the text.

They called a couple of weeks later to my surprise and asked me to cancel my account which i did even though i had explained that I thought it was already cancelled.

I have now got debt collectors calling me every day about this and I really don't want to pay the 73 quid that they now say I owe but I also don't want a black mark against my name either as I am about to get my house done up and will be needing a loan shortly.

I have pleaded with them to wrote this off and they can see from the account that I didn't use the phone during this period at all except to check that I ad received that text they were talking about.

I was going to get the phone PAYG for my son with 3 but I won't be doing that now, that is for sure.

any advice?

can sympathise with you......they are correct in saying if you dont use your PAC code then your account will continue, HOWEVER if you have specfically told them that you want to cancel your account then that is their problem.

I would contact OFCOM, the telecoms regulator

I spoke to ofcom today and they told me to put it in writing to them, registered latter and they have 12 weeks to reply.

i've never had a contract with 3 and never will. My dad had a contract with them and the reception is hopeless and the customer services is awful. Stick to o2 or Orange...

However regarding the PAC as logic^^^ already mentioned, if you dont use the code then your contract continues until you ring in again and ask them to cancel.

dont know how you work out the reception is hopeless....it's by far the best i've had and is better than our lasses t-mobile and dads o2.........also i've found the customer service ok......indian but spoke english well and was able to understand them ok.

i'm sorry to hear about your troubles m8 but i bet that 3 wouldnt be the only company to do that.

Can only speak as I find and tbh I haven't had a problem with 3, I'm on my fourth phone with them and I have never had any problems. I pay £15 a month and rarely have to pay for any excess minutes or texts.

I was a 3 customer for 2 and a half years with no need to contact customer services at all and had no problems with them. Only warning people that something like this can happen out of nothing.

I am now getting daily calls from ADT debt collectors asking me to confirm my post code and date of birth and will tel;l me there address to allow me to write and complain to them.

Also telling me they want to speak to me about my 3 account without getting my details first.

really beginning to get to me now.

NOt had a problem with 3 yet. Found them to be very helpful when I had to call them. Also, when my SE went faulty they repaired it no questions asked in 3 days even though I had unlocked and debranded it. I would recommend them to friends and family. The only phone company I have had trouble with is O2.

im on 3 and have probs getting a signal six miles away when im down my caravan

best network in my opinion!! ..these days dubious activity is to be expected from every company!! people don't read things when they're signing up for deals. the consumer has to clue themselves up, so that they don't get ripped off. it'd be much simpler if the companies just did it. but they probably wouldn't make any money if they were completely honest. fact of life unfortunately

The only problem I find with 3 is that sometimes my texts take a long time to reach the recipient.

However, they have a cracking deal for contract customers at the moment; til end of May you can have a FREE broadband dongle and only pay £5 a month for 1gig bandwidth, £7.50 for 3gig or 12.50 for 7gig.

Can't make my mind up whether to go for it, I don't use my laptop outside the house. But then again they say I would be able to use it on any computer, anywhere. So I suppose I could carry it around with me.

I agree, I'm on 3 and it is great. A few years ago, the 3 network was SHOCKING but nowadays if you drop out of the 3 network you immediately drop into Orange.

Customer service is spot on, a damn sight better than the Virgin Media or SKY customer service centres who are in the UK.

I took the 7.50 deal its great and dongle free too !!

Sorry guys another anti-3 guy here. Poor customer service and dreadful reception for me.

But as with all companies there are customers who get good service and poor. So down to individual experiences really.

Personally I love 02 and would never switch to any other provider, after a dreadful 3 years with Orange.

well that doesnt happen to me i just get no signal

my advice mate, on the next call from adt tell em from now on you ONLY want correspondance in writing as their behaviour amounts to HARRASMENT. You are covered under law. Also tell them that any calls after this point WILL be logged (keep note of time, date etc) and the DCA reported. You can also tell them the amount is under DISPUTE so they have no right to demand payment.

Then write a complaint to 3, get their proper complaints address AND send recorded delivery. stating that you were NOT told about the acount becoming active again. Therfore its the staffs fault for not informing you. Although this wont immediately solve the prob it will give u sum breathing space, if u want send a copy of your three letter to the DCA. You can also send a copy to OFCOM.

hope this helps m8.

also if adt continue to hound u, after u tell em u want any correspondance in writing only send me a pm and ill tell u bout the law thing n u can put a letter together.

one of the lassies in the work is having a problem with 3 also saying that the customer service is bad and the reception is really poor up here etc glad i'm with 02!!

Cheers

We are both with 3 and have found that when phoning someone it doesn't always connect 1st time....Can't wait for 18month contract to finish....back to O2

Been with 3 since august last year. And not really had a problem with them as yet.

But compare to vodaphone, o2 & t-mobile they have been briliant.

I've only went over my allowance once. I will be staying with them unless something drastic happens.
