Bloody hell, I go into my local Morrisons petrol station tonight and it is busier than usual. I think nothing of it until I overhear some folk talking about the fact that they are closing Grangemouth down for a few days because of some strike over pensions. Its a 48 hour strike but apparently takes a few days to shut it down.

Anyway, it seems we are in for a rough time up here in Scotland and Northern England as there is expected to be a major shortage of fuel. Worst of it is, it won't be because there is not enough reserves kicking around to keep everything running as if it was any other day, No, there will be a shortage because of all the half wits that go out and panic buy!!!!!

The guys I overheard where even talking about bulk buying in bread and milk just in case the shelves get bare! JESUS CHRIST, are people really that stupid (they should be stocking up on more essetials like beer and pizza for all the days off work they will be able to claim ;) ) Seriously though, WTF!

Looks like I better blow the dust off the old push bike (motorbike without engine ;) )

John.

I can see it now, we'll be killing cows and sheep on the side of the motorway and loading up our cars

The problem is also added to because STANLOW in Elesmere Port was running on reserves a few weeks ago due to a production problem also, think it was to aviation fuel having to be sent back and re-refined, this took the normal fuel prodution ofline until this was resolved

erm big paul youve admitted your a halfwit lol
news has just said it could be for a month or so for scotland and northeast but i could do with walking never walked since i got my car realistically .;)

Well at least he got to spend some time with the family !! lol

lol, petrol shortage sounds like another ploy to boost short term sales. Come to think of it sooner or later it will run out what will we all do then. Well cycling it is, better start running and get the old legs upto scratch.

Then they'll start a new supertax on biycles, and they'll need road tax to be able to use the road or cycle lanes!

:)

the management have until 2 morrow (as well as the unions) to come to some agreement if it isnt reached then the main plant for producing fuel will come down i have asked and have been told that we are holding 5 days of fuel available, but as ppl panic buy it may be less, a few garages in my area went dry at around 1700 hrs yesterday the problem arose when the guy who owns ineos started to take money out of our pension fund (40 million quid)also this refinery produces petrol for the whole of scotland north east of england and we have what the call the triangle which runs from here down one coast of england along to the other coast we send petrol thro this to other places

I bought £15 worth in Cardiff today oblivious to any of this and the petrol station had hardly any customers, the price was still a joke though (£1.08 a litre)

this government needs to seriously look into biodiesel
the research into it is coming along nicely,
soon they should be able to get more out of it than they put into it by using multi-tiered algael ponds.

Solar updraft tower's and nuclear power could do with a look in - anything to get over our shortage of oil.
I would rather a few 1km towers producing energy than more oil plants, even if a few old ladies think it "spoils the view of the clouds"

too bad I crashed my old diesel :-( Could've used veggie oil while this thing blows over :(

we've been running on bio here for years, its called putting"red through bread"..
apparently it removes the colour, then add a drop or two of 2 stroke oil (green) hey presto, 50p a litre saved...
even the legit garages over here selling laundered or smuggled fuel and charging full price, on everyturn now the government are ripping the balls outa everything with tax, folk are reverting back to the dark ages and doing what they have to to survive..
you folk over there haven't a clue, we are 20 years behind you after our country being ravaged by war for 30 years..

i think the price of fuel should just be reduced.....

they should reduce tax.....

Boost sales?dont think they need to,its an essential commodity in the 21st century.

it wont happen m8

If there was going to be a blockaed or a strike EVERYONE just runs out and fill their cars to the gunnels and spare cans so it all defeats the point.

Just like BigPaul says it ppl like him let the goverment know they can do what the **** they want with the tax on fuel and the VAT on that TAX too lol it a fucking joke.

Don' quite understand what the "ravaged by war" comments have to do with it?

Peeps on the mainland have always paid more living costs than us, we don't have council tax to pay and we don't have water tax or rates, god only knows that it is only in the last few years that the bast*rds have managed to get us to buy a TV license ! lol

And there is more smuggled gogo juice in this country than anywhere else ! lol
