New pending Canadian bill means no backups of any media, on par with DMCA

A Canadian visitor mailed us in a news item regarding a new bill that will be introduced in Canada this week that will prohibit the copying of DVDs or CDs to an iPod, no taping of TV programmes, no backup of DVD's, e-books or sections of research and no cheap ink for printers. He asked us to post this in the hope that people will voice their concerns regarding the law.

There is news regarding a new Bill that will be introduced in Canada
this week.

You can read more about it at:

The FaceBook group has reached over 10,000 people in just a week.

If you can, I encourage you to post this news on your site as a way to
get more people involved, and their voices heard on the subject. What
is needed is for more people to take action by writing letters or posting
their concerns.

Canadians need to hear is that this bill will mean:

they can't copy a DVD or CDs to their iPod, media server, or make a backup,
they can't tape a favourite TV programme to watch later,
they can't backup their kid's DVDs in case they get scratched or damaged,
they can't backup that e-book, or copy a section for research, print a
bit out,
they can't buy cheap ink for their printer

number 1 its canada and not the uk (yet!!!)

number 2 nobody will cease from doing it just because they pass a law (fact!!!)

number 3 i would like to see them enforce this law (pmsl!!!!)

same as if it did happen here, non of you lot would cease from doing what you,ve done for years because of a ridiculous law and theres not a chance they will have the resources to put a stop to it, there'll just be too many doing what they've always done.

with the way technology id going its impossible for that to become law

look at 'on demand' services, online based tv catchup services, PVRs like sky+ and V+ rely on the fact you want to record a tv programme

itll never happen in this country, unless they can tax you per recording, then we'll all just moan about it and pay up lol

Last time i checked we were all in the UK :)
