20 post rule !

I can sort of see why you have this rule but jeez is it tedious trying to make 20 posts in areas you know absolutely nothing about just so you can get to participate in something you do know a bit about.

Its so tempting to just go elsewhere that might be a bit more accepting of new members.

you only need one more m8
if any one is tempted to go else where then they do not know what this forum is really like
this has been covered many times and said by many
but it is the same for me
i came for the cable fix and to find out how too and found so much more
good info, good mod/ admin and most of all members ( including me ) who will seat for hours to help
now this is the first port of call for me and the best i have seen
but i do agree it can be frustrating and as you say tedious but well worth the time and effort

i agree with you 100% on your post to be honest 20 posts dont take long to get.

# New members will not be able to post in the cable section or use the downloads until they have 20 posts and be a member for 2 days.

Me too. I came here for help with my new (and non working) dbox2. I was pissed off that I needed 20 posts as well, but soon found some forums that I had knowledge in and did my best to help out. I had intened to get the help I needed and then not come back, but I found myself drawn into the community and stuck around. I still lurk a lot more than I post but I have no qualms about posting without fear of flaming or anything

Anybody who is tempted to go elsewhere will soon be back here once they realise that no other forum is as useful, with as friendly members who have a real wealth of knowledge and understanding. 20 posts and two days of membership is a small price to pay for access to such great information, especially if it stops people downloading the files they need and disappearing.

Stop whinging and get on with it

I am new to this site and to be brutally honest I do not need to bump\up my post counts to be able to dload any of teh files that are available on here as I have been a member of numerous other sites for years and years , however I do understand why, numerous other sites have had influxes of peeps turn p as soon as their box has gone off leached the info and disappeated again., until teh next time.

Saying all that the site does come accross vey well and I quite like it here and am motre than happy to post where ever i feel I can add value.

Just for your info the downloads section is probably the last place I'll be visiting. I joined the site because another member convinced me it was a friendly site where my input could be useful. With comments like that though i'm starting to seriously doubt the friendly bit !

I think people need to look at it from a different angle: this site doesn't exist for people who want to come and get stuff - it is here for the benefit of it's members. It just happens those members are interested in sharing particular stuff. No members, no stuff!

And - even if casual visitors would like it that way - it definitely isn't a self-service store.

Some other forums would have forced you to go elsewhere by banning you for starting a thread like this.

It's up to you to make up you're own mind about what DW is like.

Come back to this thread in a few weeks and reflect on your findings.

I'd never join any forum where I thought I might get banned merely for having an opinion that differs from Admin/moderators. Any site that ran on such a strategy would have very few members of quality.

I do not disagree with you.

But sadly it's true and does happen. Some forums just have silly rules.

Believe me mate, this is a really friendly site. I came here as one of my mates used it for cable stuff a while back. I signed up as there were loads of other things of interest, I hardly ever post in the cable or modem sections and have never dowloaded cable/modem stuff. I sign into DW every single day, because there is something new and interesting everyday? As Devilfish has already said, give it a couple of weeks and join in with other disscusions and I'm sure you will look on DW and it's members in a different light?

Rules are rules and it's DW's rules and friendliness that help make it the best forum on the net

After M*dshack went under a new URL and wasn't allowing any new members whatsoever (as with other sites being un-noob friendly also), I had trouble getting a foothold finding out the info I was after.
I thanked my lucky stars I found this place by chance, and just it had everything I needed to know under one roof. The friendly and helpful nature of the members just happened to be the cherry on top.
I certainly didn't have a problem with the 20 post limit, and I don't see how anyone has the right to demand things from something that your gaining a free and valuable information from.

Can I boost my postcount up too please.

Could at least allow people to post in cable section, I can understand restricting downloads not posting though :?
