Could be a damaged HDMI port, if you rest the display do you get a picture via the composite cable?

its the slim ps3 only has hdmi port only ...took out the hard drive and reseated it but still the same, was opening up the ps3 but need t8 scredriver...will do it tpmmorrow..lol

All PS3 have a connector that allows you to use composite cable, see image below which is of slim. Second connector from the left (PS3 is upside down). Unless you haven't got the cable to use that port with!

Here's another one

AV Multi out, if this works then this will at least confirm it's an issue with the HDMI port. If not, then will the issue will be more serious.

Ok..u mean the digital out or the AV output ?

ok got a genuine ps2 AV cable connected to my samsung smart tv...but still getting no picture, so i thought i may not be connectting the yellow, red and white rca connections properly , so i plugged in my nephews perfectly working ps3, using this ps2 cable, i still cannot get a picture, either the ps2 cable is no good or im not connecting to my tv the right way.., where do the rca leads, ie red, yellow and white go..?....im connecting the yellow to video on back of tv, the red to red labelled R and white to the only white connections on the back.??????????

If you were using HDMI before, first you need to reset the display by poweing on the console and holding on the power button for few seconds until you hear a second beep. This will reset the display and use the standard A/V cable. (Red & white RCA cables are for audio while the yellow cable is for video).

thanks mate worked on the perfectly 100$ working ps3, but unfortunately not on the one that my kid dropped..getting no signal on AV on my tv..looks like more damage then expected...cab the hard drive anything to do with it..i took the drive out and put it in a 2.5" caddy, connects to my pc, but doesnt show up in "my computer"?

Hard drive won't have anything to do with PS3 display, casuse without HDD the PS3 will still display an error message and says could not load OS as storage device is missing. Might be time to open it up and see if any components have been damaged or moved!

lol i did open it up but only tool the cover off..didnt proceed any further.. found some plastic that was rattling around..seemes to have come from one of the main screws holding the casing to the body , also found a small black screw ratlling aound, might try later and go deeper , need a good guide to dismantle it..

ok took it apart today right down to the motherboard, rchecked everything , reseated all connectors/ribbons etc..put it back together still no good..must be something serious..kid is gutted so looks like ill be loking for another ps3 slim..lol

They are only £99.99 from game for 120GB model. If you decide to sell yours for parts, then I might be interested in the Blue Ray drive.

Will let u know mate..given it to a bloke who repairs stuff like this so will see if it can be fixed or is beyond economical repair...

My HDMI doesn't work either but using a ps2 cable does, I think my son banged it or pushed it too far back. Id be interested to see if it's fixable or maybe GPU related...

ok guys sort of fixed the ps3...seems the rsx gpu procesoor has moved so i did the penny trick as mentioned HERE..ITS WORKING ! but i only tested it for a few minutes as im sure adding pennies to this rsx chip will move away from the thermal compound hence it will overheat, unfortunately i managed to pull the fan socket off the board but m looking for a fix for that...so know i know what the problem is is there any other way of getting a firmer contact on the rsx chip ?

damm its gone again, i took out the pennies and its gone bad, i manage dto solde rthe fan back onto the board and fan works fine but now the ps3 comes on , goes freen light for about 2 secs then beeps 3 times and switches off...looks like the gpu chip needs replacing or a reflow, but out of my league..so may sell it on the bay for spares or repairs lol

Like I said, if you wana break it for part and the BD works then I'm interested in that?
