I can't sign in to either of my UK or USA accounts. Server seems to be down. Oddly enough it only seems to be affecting the fat machines and not the Slim. Some think it's a bug with the internal clock with regards to a leap year or something, so should sort itself out but lots of people been having this issue as of about yesterday evening so it's no coincidence. That and the fact that Sony have acknowledged the fault lol. So just a heads up since nobody has posted jack all of it on here until now.

They do need to sort out things like this with regards to their online, problems arise for them all but Sony's seem to be self inflicted with regards to update issues and this hardware fault. Should be fine later on or tomorrow. It's supposed to be a date bug to do with the system clock and not your OS clock, though I was wondering why my OS clock gave me the wrong date and time last night and now I know why lol, and my PSN themes were corrupted but apparently they'll sort themselves out as and when your PS3 does. I think it's funny the amount of people who are posting as if their life is about to end because of this little problem lol, it's hardly life and death people - so you're playing online for 1 less evening, it'll probably do you good.

Regarding Heavy Rain, you should try playing it now because apparently you can't play it at the moment due to this problem something to do with that game's dynamic trophy updates or something....today is something of a bad day of Jack Bauer 24 proportions for Sony. Also I've had Heavy Rain freeze on my gamesave at a certain point, all the time, all I did was load up the previous chapter and play on and didn't have that problem again.

seems to be only effecting the Fat models so far. Seems to be an hardware problem with the realtime clock (RTC) issue.

this is a device with battery backup that increments monotomically regardless of whether PS3 is switched on or off. All core 'date based' operations (such as DRM validation checks) are governed by the value of this clock. The Sony linux kernel documents claimed that the hypervisor only has read-only access to this device and that it cannot be reset.

If this device has a hardware fault and the value has become corrupted or reset then DRM validation checks are failing, which explains why downloaded PS1 games + themes have issues. Presumably this value is also part of the PSN-login negotiations and 'out of range' values trigger connection closure as part of a general security precaution.

took this from the sony forum of models which are working/not working

CECHL03 - Working
CECHL04 - Working
CECHC02 - NOT working
CECHC03 - NOT working
CECHC04 - NOT working
CECHG03 - NOT working
CECHK01 - NOT working
CECHM03 - NOT working
CECHK03 - NOT working

Glad in a way that my old fat got the YLOD in Jan, as i bought a slim one, which doesn't seem to have the problem.

From what I've read, which is very little to tell you the truth, it'll either sort itself out tomorrow, literally after 24 worldwide hours (cue 24 style clock countdown and split screen view of online nerds ripping their hair out lol) or if not it's going to take an update from Sony to fix - which could be an issue for a lot of people as they'll obviously have to get it manually. I'll be alright though because I have the means, though those relying on PSN for their updates might be fooked.

update

PlayStation 3 systems across the globe have been struck with the 8001050F error.

On February 28, the calendar on original PS3 systems was reset to January 1, 2000, blocking access to online content. It has been confirmed that Slim PS3 systems have not been affected.

The console will fail to access PSN, load games with Trophies or play PS3 Originals or Premium Themes. Users have reported that Trophy data has also been wiped.

The error has been identified to strike offline systems, suggesting a firmware error related to a leap year miscalculation.

Sony has told Twitter followers: "We're aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we're looking into it. Stay tuned for updates."

It has been advised that users with older PS3 models should not use their console until further notice.

But some games do still work, Wipeout HD and PixelJunk Eden for instance - and even in this temp state of being what would be essentially a big, heavy paperweight I can still get use out of the PS3 since I can still listen to my music and watch my tv shows and hd movies on there while still being able to use the internet on it - even on temp life support it's useful! ;) I do apologize but the temptation was too much as there are those that think those said features aren't useful - there's a ton of people with fat PS3's making good use of them now I'll bet. But on a serious note, it seems to me like it's looking as if Sony are probably going to need to update firmware to fix.

But that is not the point, not being able to play offline is just a joke, many, many people bought heavy rain the other day and they should expect to be able to play it. Its not like people are pissed off with the PSN going down its what else it brings down with it.

And yet you're straight online to try to argue the toss when your PS3 goes down, that's ironic isn't it, actually m8 to be fair I agree with you 100% it's not good enough. I myself have 4 PSOne games on my PS3 which won't currently play as it's tied into the PSN service which is ridiculous. PSN bought PS3 games like Flower and that I can understand, but PSOne and some retail bought single player only games ? Like I said it's just a catalogue of oversights that's all bubbled to the surface in the last 24 hours that'll be forgotten about in another 24 hours when normal service resumes. But you're right, it is a joke. But my point still stands. Just a bad day for Sony, well actually a terrible day for the PS3 users that are so bothered about 24 hours less of dedicated play.....argue and complain all you want if it makes you feel any better for it by all means, some people on here know I do it all the time lol, but it's not going to change anything or make it go any faster, don't worry m8 it'll be back on soon enough. I wouldn't give yourself a heart attack over it, just sit back, relax and just wait for it to sort itself out, after all it's not like you're paying a subscription. ;)

Im in work, im not too bothered about it tbf, i have many satellite stations to amuse me later on tonight its just that a simple thing like the date should not bring down 50% of ps3's

Totally. But what can anyone apart from Sony do about it except wait and bitch about it ? Quite a lot actually. Get some fresh air and take a walk, watch telly, browse the net....2 out of 3 you can do on the PS3 even in it's current state. ;) But yeah it is what it is and what's done is done....all's I can say is it would have been a lot worse if you'd been paying a subscription for the service too. So be happy that you ain't and it'll be back to normal shortly. Glass half full n all that. :)
