I have got my sons a PS3 for christmass and was wanting to know if I would be able to put karaoke files on the hard drive and play then buy the PS3 mics in order to play them through the ps3. Can't do it on the laptop as the microphone does not get recognised when the media player is on. Would this work on the ps3?

no mate, this definately wouldnt work.

why not buy one of the "sing it" games instead. surely those are just like karaoke

I wouldn't spend the money on them I'll just download from news groups and burn to DVD and get them for free.

Not sure if this helps but MP3 & CDG (karaoke) files can be converted to AVI files that will play on the PS3. I use a program called cdg2avi.

I dont know about the mic's though.

but u cant play copied games on a ps3, unless your talking about the karaoke discs.

but u still wont be able to use the mics

As far as I know the PS3 does'nt play Karaoke disks. Well my PS3 fat does'nt anyways, and I dont think the new slim one has had the ability added.

Of course you can install Linux and use a MP3&CDG player to play Karaoke files downloaded.

But not on a slim, what a fucked up idea it was to remove linux.
