40 gig PS3 broken

Hi..

My 40 gig PS3 has just stopped reading disks.....trouble is I cant find receipt and cant remember if its out of warranty.....do I ring sony customer services and tell them its 11 months old...and have receipt...do they ask to see receipt? any Idea when they stopped selling 40 gig machines......I mainly used this machine to watch blu-ray discs upstairs......

any advice please

Can you confirm on a bank statement or credit card statement when it was bought?
 
They can tell you weather its in or out of warrenty over the phone, Phone them up and find out ;)
 
Paid cash & can't find reciept....can I just phone up and blag it....say I bought it in July last year....or will they know...honestly cant remember when it was bought....
 
I bought an 80 gig model at xmas...cant I tell them on the phone that its broke and when they come to replace it...give em the 40 gig model? as they dont check when swap out is done!! or will they ban my 80 gig model off the network if I do that!!

or can I take the blu-ray drive out of my 80 gig.....replace it with the 40 gig broken drive....then phone customer services...and get the 80 gig replaced?
 
they will ask for the serial number of the ps3 on the phone and this is the one the courier will expect to get.

if u remove the bluray drive from either machine they will not touch it, as the warranty seal will be broken.

as far as i aware, it doesnt matter if its out warranty, they will replace it within a few days for free. its only the 60gb ps3's they wont replace for free now. so give them a call.
 
called sony customer services....told em it was bought july 08...said serial number was fine....but they said they needed receipt.....so im fooked...unless someone can gimme a copy of a reciept from july last year.....only a copy is needed....so you dont have to send original.....then I can get it fixed for free......please someone must have a receipt they can scan......PM me please if someone can help..

if u only need a copy, then im sure someone could photoshop one for u. usually they dont bother with receipt. infact, they usually dont bother whether it was bought in the last year or not. up until recently they were replacing ps3's, for free, that were almost 3 yrs old
 
they are not swapping it out....only gonna repair it....I thought they too had good customer services.....ah well...lets see what happens!
