For as many years as I can remember I've has sinus problems mucus and stiffness, as though its blocked. This in turn leads to sinus headaches which at their worse can be debilitating.
I've been the Docs and checked for viral check got the all clear. The more I've read theres lots about self treating.

Has anyone else suffered from sinus troubles and what's your proven remedy ?. Has food types anything took with it dairy, meat, etc.

I've always had catarrh problems. Even had my adenoids removed as a small child. Never found a remedy, but i noticed that dairy products/ crisps and fizzy drinks seem to make it worse. Probably a few other things too, that i haven't clocked.

I don't think my Charlie habit and helped it either. Lol

Apart from the Charlie, that might be a histamine problem.

I suffer from blocked sinuses all the time (nothing in there, just inflamed sinuses), I used to get hayfever bad when I was young but that seemed to go away. Unfortunately, it spread out over the year rather than disappearing. It's no longer seasonal but probably something like allergic rhinitis. My dad has something similar and goes to the doctors for it so it might be genetic.

I'm never far from a bottle of Oxymetazoline nose drops (supposed to be a spray but it never works on the cheap bottles). I wake up breathing through my mouth without this. This can go on for ages and is exhausting when I can't get proper sleep due to sinuses clamping shut.

I use a basic anti-histamine and Oxymetazoline. I have some pseudoephidrine based tablets too but I don't take them often. I can sleep while taking it but some people can't. That gets rid of the blocked sinuses anyway.

Back to histamines; cheese (especially Feta), red wine, and fermented products are going to be high in natural histamines and will set allergies off. I had a sneezing bout in a pub years ago and a friend said "That's the hops..." I thought it was an old wife's tale. Looked it up a couple of years ago and hops are near the top of the list for histamines LOL.

I treat it with the nose spray (can't stay asleep without it) and antihistamines as I can't give up dairy products or fermented things :).

With me, it seems to be behind the nose (just above the throat) it's just a bit annoying, but It doesn't really bother me that much. I do piss people off though scraping my throat lol.

@silverdale a mate of mine had sinus problems and opted for a operation. He said it was a waste of time, wasn't long before it came back. :(

I've heard that , only around 10% get relief after an operation

I'm trying a steamer plus a nose drain trying to flush it with warm salt distilled water.
I'm murder for the sprays, its the only time I get relief or unless I out in really cold weather.
I can bare the blocked nose but the sinus headaches when at their worse they can make me physically sick.

I also read about Gelomyrtol lots reckon they are really good anyone tried them?

My other half got a little machine from the states a good few years back now it's an irigator that she uses it with sea salt and warm water. It fires jets of salt water up ya nose. If fact it came out today as my mother has borrowed it.

Does it look like a tea pot with 2 spouts ?
Not your mother in law , the machine

I think this is the one

I had a snotty nose and throat. Especially at night. I would snore loudly and developed into sleep apnoea.

Tried a c-pap machine. Hated it. I now use a nasal spray daily in the morning. It's now completely dried up and dont snore anymore. It's a pirotese spray. Burns your nostrils though when you use it.

For mine I used beconase which is a hay fever spray for the nose, I don't suffer from hay fever but for some reason if i had a bad cold, the after affects were major sinus problems pain at the back of the eyes :( but this stuff seem to ease it

Wow, I had no idea that this was such a widespread ailment. I too suffer from this, especially after I have had a cold, it just seems to linger for weeks afterwards. I too have been prescribed Beconase as well as me stocking up on nasal decongestant pills from my local pound shops.

I also invested in something called a neti pot at least ten years ago and while it is generally agreed that they are helpful for the relief of nasal congestion and the removal of excessive mucus from the nose/sinuses they must be used safely, i.e. only use sterile boiled water from your kettle, once it's cooled to room temperature and also keep the equipment sterile by thoroughly cleaning regularly. I googled before I posted this and found interesting info here with video to explain how it's used.

Sadly, this is exactly the time of year when this condition worsens 🤧

I've ordered and used a push button neti pot. I cant say much gunk came out or I got much relief using a saline lotion.

I'm plagued now so it's a trip to the docs. Not sure about this but someone said "Do you each much bread or dairy ?" Which j happen to eat a fair bit off. They said could be that. I've never been tested

Just had a couple of days of inflamed sinuses after Feta cheese on toast two days running.

Try the cheap antihistamines from Wilko, there's two types you can get there and one might work bettter than the other for you.

Will do , I also have a Beconese spray, I think me nose is fecked will all these rinses lotions and potions

With most medicines you can get a rebound affect, where the problem comes back when you stop taking. Not so bad with Oxymetazoline but won't be good with pseudoephidrine based ones.

Your right there Spectre, it's a terrible cycle were you just constantly take stuff for relief but your adding to the problem.

I normally end up just going without meds till the sinuses settle but this time nothings working
