TM-7102 - buzzing from PSU board?

I'd like to see it too, I couldn't find a picture of one.

Asked our SMPS expert at work ages ago what was actually making the sound from one and it's usually the ferrite core of the transformer changing shape rather then the windings, which I first thought. Sometimes caused by the converter working at a lower than designed frequency. Just a bit PSU trivia :).

Interesting - so that points to the transformer itself rather than the rather obvious assumptio n I made that it must be the domed cap... yes, what you say makes sense, vibration which is perceived as buzzing...

It's usually something causing the converter to run slower but the noise is probably from the transformer. My guess would still be a failed capacitor somewhere :).

I have seen failed transformers too though.

I reckon failed caps as well. When a transformer/power supply is "hunting" it can cause the buzzing sound. The transformer's design in the circuit should enable it to run at a "tuned" frequency. Feedback from the psu secondary is fed back to the primary in order to stabilise the outputs. If the secondary varies by a wide margin the transformer's magnetic field could be rising and collapsing outside of the "tuned" frequency.

A long time since I did the theory but it worked something like that. You take a crap photo @goldnet

Thanks - really motivating that - and sooo helpful in getting the problem fixed ;)

Yes, even I noticed one of the pics was fuzzy but had to wait to get home to take some new ones, which you can find here

I don't think I'm up to removing and replacing all the caps, with no guarantee that will solve the problem. I'm very happy and would be most appreciative if someone more expert than I could repair and test the board.

At some point beyond a few quid, it becomes a waste of time and money, as all my recordings are intact on the HDD, it is easier to buy a replacement receiver. I'm keen on an FBC tuner option if I'm putting up a motorised dish.

The TM might be good as a 2nd receiver though...

Well, not been able to find anyone to repair the TM so I need to look for a new one. What's a recommended Linux box with FCB tuners? Will amLinux box be able to open the same channels as my patched TM?

Full Band Capture

if you have loads to spend get a VU + Uno 4K

are just get a Zgemma H.2H dual core works fine

OpenATV 6.2

cs is old now m8

OK, thanks. If cs is old, what's the current method to watch, say Mezzo TV or ORF?

Everyone is using IPTV now but don't as for a supplier as it's not allowed on the forum, google it and you will find something
