Ok chaps need a little help wife wants to swop gas oven over to electric I need help with what size fuse breaker and cable I need I had a look on ebay some say 6mm cable and others say 10mm cable ant electrician out there that can help me out

If its just an oven then its only a 13 amp supply. If its a full cooker with hotplates then it will need 40 amp and 10mm cable

What is rating (amps) of oven you're looking at as IanB mentioned it depends on what you get?

Our electric Oven was rated max 13amp (as we still used a gas hob) and in fact with these you can use a normal 13amp plug.

If it's a full cooker (ie rated higher than 13 amp - likely 32+ amps) then it will require a dedicated feed from CU (consumer unit) with a rating of 32amp or 40amp MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker - ie fuse). It would have to be RCD consumer unit or if not, use a 32/40amp RCBO instead of MCB.

IMHO, if you do have to choose between 32amp or 40amp then you may as well go for 40amp protection so therefore futureproofing it.

Could be a good multi choice question in the electrical exam

tells you the output on the oven, i've got a double oven which requires a 20 amp supply , 2.5mm cable, 20amp mcb.

Ok that oven is a little under 20amp rating hence why they mentioned 32amp fuse
