CCTV for business buying advice needed please

The one in the top right corner has the Starvis sensor and the one in the bottom lefthand corner has starlight

found these cheaper not Maxxone branded but similar: 1080p SONY Starvis Dome CCTV Camera 2.4MP 3.6mm lens HDTVI AHD HDCVI UK spec | eBay

full search: sony starvis cctv | eBay

Same camera with Starvis and Varifocal lens slightly dearer but worth it as the IR is 30m and not 20m: CCTV Varifocal Lens Dome Camera 2.4MP Sony Starvis HD 1080p HYBRID 30M Night UK2 | eBay

The Maxxone Starlight camera is around £130 and i have only seen it in Bullet form with a 6mm lens

Brilliant , that's exactly what I'm after. I will go with th Varifocal Lens just because of the size of the garage and yard. Then if I need to adjust the zoom in/out and focus it's a case of a pair of ladders and a screwdriver all sorted.

They've got to be a massive improved on what he's already got and by just looking at the existing camera's they don't look the hottest on the market plus there a good few years old.

I've ordered a couple of the Starvis varifocal camera's, I'm pretty sure they'll make a huge difference on what he has plus I can stick the older ones say inside the building somewhere so they'll all get used at some point. I'll then set up all his motion detection and alarms for him

I've been following this thread and was almost convinced that I need to get hikvision. But then, searching on the net for managing disk space with IP cameras, I found that unifi/ubiquiti do IP cameras. Quite pricey, but you get to make good use of their controller software and the quality is very sharp. Look at the following video for a review:

The good thing is that unifi cater for commercial applications as well as for prosumers; maybe it's what you are looking for. I'm definitely getting these!

This was the first page that I came across on the unifi cameras: Secure your Premises with CCTV

Very pricey for something thats only 1080p, nearly all IP camera's can be used with any system after all they are IP based and there is plenty of free software just as good.

For that price they should be at least between 5-8 megapixel which is closer to 4K, i have a system here Hikvision with 6 megapixel Number plate and Face recognition software built in that are far cheaper than the Ubiquiti G3 ones, Obviously with the Hikvision one you have to have the appropriate NVR/DVR .

Hikvision and Maxxone as well as other manufacturers have realised that a lot of Business premises that have been hardwired years ago with coax are highly doubtful going to change to an IP based system due to the extra cost of re-cabling and thats why you can get 5 megapixel Analogue camera's now 8 megapixel should be here this year.

Hikvision brought out POC camera's last year for that very same reason cost saving so that older installs can upgrade to HD without the need to re-cable or even a separate wall mounted PSU, as POC works over a single BNC connection (Video/Power) a similar way to how NVR's work so you could actually just run Satellite cable to each camera job done.

Granted, the system does look very good and would be excellent for a high end business. I'm not sure if it's a bit too much for home use but if you can afford it then why not.

Handbrake doesn't convert to Avi only .MP4 and mkv

what format is it in and do you have VLC player set to demuxer set to automatic.

to change the demuxer go preferences > video > show all > demuxer > change to automatic.

if that dont work uninstall VLC player and reinstall with default settings.

Hang on is this a cctv file? I remember I had to download some random software to convert the file from the dvr to avi

Quick Google search I found this: Finally found 264 player for Swann - CCTV Forum

My dahua dvr has option to download directly as avi so just use that but I think the raw file is another format that can only be played back on the dvr itself.

Hope that helps

vlc player can play back the video files you speak of if you change the demuxer to H264 video demuxer. It plays back the videos from my dahua camera using this setting but wont play back any other file type unless i change it back to automatic

I put up the Starvis camera's and the problem is, pixelating while on remote access. It's like the picture is refreshing say every half a second but while it refreshes the picture gradually gets worse, pixelating then it slowly goes back to normal like it's in a cycle of some sort, this happens on 3 different type of camera's so it can't be them.
It doesn't do this on the monitor in his office so I'm wondering if it's his BT Bband or some kind of setting within the DVR to up the anti when streaming out or simply its the DVR
I have a shitty Storage Options and mine doesn't do this so to eliminate this I'm going to take my DVR and see what happens.

I have access to his settings via my browser, tell me if you spot anything or something in there I can change to help please me know

Mainstream is basically what the Monitor in the office sees, 960H is the Highest quality for your Older DVR Resolution is fine up the FPS to 25, and also the Bitrate for better quality playback recordings.

Substream is what you see on the phone, Change the FPS and the Birate to the highest and see what its like, your Phone App may have an option to change from substream to mainstream so will improve quality.

I normally use main stream on my phone I don't think iv ever used sub stream. 3fps is low. You could easily triple that if you wanted.

I only glance at cctv now and again so using main stream isn't an issue.
