Hi all,

Any decent cheap routers out there that I can purchase and flash with DD-WRT/Tomato firmware and use with my VM SH3 in modem mode?

TIA

plenty for DDWRT

try the TPLink WR740N or 840N - can be picked up for around 10 pounds

or the old one VM gave away, DLink 615D - again could get one for round 5 pounds

I got a Cisco E3000 for 10 pounds off EBay and that supports Tomato and DDWRT

AFAIK Tomato only works with Broadcom based routers so has a limited number that support it

I'm selling a tp-link wr1043nd which has wrt already on it.

so you can use this like a VPN but a firmware update on the router guys ?

depends on router and vpn due to the processing required for vpn some routers may struggle

Be careful which router you buy. I have the tp-link wr1043nd with Gargoyle software which I've been happily running for a few years.

A couple of weeks ago I finally managed to get Virgin vivid350. No problem I thought, I'd continue using my current setup.

Problem is, I wasn't getting anywhere near full speed. My broadband was now too fast for my router.

I'm using the superhub 3 now as I get 385mbps, and I was getting about 150mbps on the tp-link wr1043nd.

The cpu can only deal with so much. My binary newsgroup software also had to go as that had the same issue, and I had to change my cat 5 cables to cat 5e/cat6.

the issue is these routers with ddwrt or other custom firmware use software NAT which will reduce the WAN thru put

I was in similiar position in the end had a old core 2 duo CPU so installed 1GB NICS run pfsense now get a good slid 260 MB
