Hi Guys
As part of my job I have to do a lot of typing in Excel, and I am sure that it can be done much quicker, I have searched youtube and google etc but I must not be asking the right question because I am definitely not getting the correct answer.
This is what I do for each item
Cell A Item Code Cell B Description Cell C How many in each pack Cell D = cost
Once I have typed this the only thing that will ever change will be the cost.

How can I get excel to auto fill Cell B and Cell C after I have inputted the item code in cell A?
Below is a similar spreadsheet

Thanks in anticipation even if the answer is you cant

If each line is unique you cant do it.

i.e. if you only enter the item code in the sheet once and the description could be anything the the sheet has no way of knowing what the description is.

If on the other hand you only have say 10-20 different descriptions then yo could use lookup tables as suggested. Personally I would probably use an Access database anyway

VLOOKUP did the job

Thanks Pal

Take care that the VLOOKUP scope is expanded when you add to the table otherwise the new entries are not found :). There is another function, INDEX MATCH, which might be of interest too depending on what works better for you.
