Can BB provider do this? I say yes?

Ok Ive been with my home broadband provider for 18month and I'm leaving. Phoned them up on the 19th to give my 14 days notice etc and Ive signed with up again with BT (no cable where I live and TBH wish Id never left BT) Anyway since phoning on 19th literally within a couple of hrs my speed on my Fibre BB has dropped to between 1.65 and 3.18mbps at peak times. Ive reset router to factory settings etc and been back on phone to them , they're saying no fault and must be my gear etc. I said youve throttled my speed cause I'm leaving which they say, They havent and cant do that to individual customers? what do you reckon.
 
They can throttle speeds at will and do, It's not the first time ISP's have tried such tactics and I doubt it'll be the last. I've had exactly the same thing happen to a couple of family members. They've called up wanting to leave for another provider and then find hours later that their speed has dropped drastically. Could understand if their speed dropped slightly if it were peak time, but it clearly wasn't that. Theres definitely something at play here. Not sure if it's within forum rules to name and shame the companies involved, so have left the company names out.
 
Surely that's illegal? If you've paid up for a certain speed, they owe it you until they cut you off.

Nope because the guarantee you nothing always says speeds upto. never you will get and we guarantee that you will get. After arguing again with them on phone and nothing changing my end, my speed is currently at 44mbps. I dont think it will last and go back down again but well see.
 
sky done the exact same thing to me when i changed from them to VM
 
i left plusnet and went to EE the first 10 days i got 10meg (copper) i was satisfyed but i was downloading alot then on the eleventh day my speed fell to 1.5meg and was like that for two months , i eventually emailed the CEO threatining to report them to ofcom, and after checking my line they released me from my contract,

I think Ofcom changed this and all bb company's need to quote you on the min speed you will get so if it says 14 meg you must get at least 14 meg

EE BB say minimum 2meg but small print says that 1meg is acceptable , i had to read terms and conditions , its a con

ah you done a quote on there 20 meg and there aloud to be I think 10 % out so that's 2 meg and if that's the speeds you get then your be lucky to do much exept email and maybe light surfing

you done a quote on there 20 meg ....yea copper bb, i got out contract went back to plusnet and got a £50 sighn up bonus check so ended up ok
 
sorry john I was a little wrong as ee have not signed up and its not mandatory its voluntary

been with them for about 9 months as got a good deal but there still one of the cheapest about and anyone signing up remember topcashback or quidco

You weren't on the internet 20+ years ago then. We managed emails and surfing and would have killed for 2MB :) Took about 2 days to download a film though and the screeching from the dial-up was a bitch

I downloaded my first copy of XP on dial-up, it took about three days with GetRight download manager (Did I remember that properly?) redialing every hour on Freeserve.

Then I got 256kb ADSL :-o.

150Mb now :).

ye mate I was and had to load windows 95 with about 50 odd floppys but websites are more than them used to be all running tracking scripts and so on and loading tons of useless ads and so on
 
Just an update spent an hour on phone with this mob this morning after having no internet again or very low speeds for fibre. Checked my router all ok. logged out logged in. done a reset migration wizzard etc, turns out after I'd done all this, then logged back in while on the phone to them my settings changed from fibre to adsl and i couldnt change it back. Thye now accept that somehow ive been moved from fibre to adsl. FFS. so line now down till they sort it but im leaving on tuesday anyway. credit added to my bill so i dont need to pay and the "generous guy" gave me 5 gig extra dat for my phone. Fecking shower of shite
