My pc was running very slowly, so I formatted it and reloaded win xp Pro.I now find that it evens run more slower and frezzes up constantly and have following problems:

Click on desktop items - none open up
CPU is always at 100% -svchost takes up over 35000 kb, ie explorer over 30000kb
internet explorer very very slow
pc will not shut down after pressing shut down button.
taskbar dissapears from desktop
Office 2003 docs will not open up

What is the problem?. Can it be that I am using an illegal copy of win xp.
Any ideas/suggestions to resolve this.

I have looked up on web,but being a novice with pc, I prefer it in plain simple english please

Thanks

give us a little more info please

system specification cpu/ram/hd

also did you have xp running on this system or different operating system

might be virus in which case it's either try fighting it or fdisk the harddrive and start again making sure your internet connection is disconnected untill you have some sort of firewall/anti virus installed.

or u could do a low level format, would kill any virus u have, and move any bad sectors if u have any on your drive. also stops any conflicts when u do a normal format and re-install windows. i,ve sorted a few problems out by doing a low level format, but make sure you get the low level format software for your drive usually suplied from the hardrive,s makers site. jon

Id agree with SEXYSAM.

Try downloading (if possible) a new and up to date copy of XP, just incase. The do a low level formatt and install the new XP.

If that doesnt fix it then its a hardware problem.
