my laptop screen has gone blank. i can still see the icons but there aint no light behind them. i know this could be the back light or the invertor. is there anyway i can test this to see what has packed in?
the laptop is an advent 7065 if this is any help.
thanks in advance

have you tried plugging in an external monitor,

whats the screen like when windows is boot up, can you read the white writing clearly or just abouts?

and see if you can adjust the britness/contrast from the bios menu

Try Holding Fn and Tapping F7. This is to increase brightness.

Function Keys
Fn + F1 - Activate \ disable wireless (if mini-PCI card is installed)
Fn + F2 - Mute sound
Fn + F3 - Decrease speaker volume
Fn + F4 - Increases speaker volume
Fn + F5 - Enable external monitor output
Fn + F6 - Decrease display brightness
Fn + F7 - Increase display brightness

It could be that ure screen is knackard.

Here is a site for getting them fixed.
They don't seem that badly priced. (from £39 +VAT).

Alternatively u could try to keep an eye out on ebay for a spare part. (I looked and there is none on there atm.)

it works through an external monitor. tried the brightnes and other settings. i can see the desktop icons and that once it boots up, but they are just visible if u catch the light on the screen. can the inverter be tested?
thanks

You will need to test the inverter board and l c d panel. best done with the right equipment. This site may give you an idea. h**p://www.laptop-inverter-repair.biz/
