Hi, guys need your thoughtful help on this one. Purchased a 2.5" laptop off eBay. Has arrived and I wanted to use it as an external harddrive.

I already own a usb caddy for the drive which I have used on numerous occasions with the hard drive currently in my lappy. So I know the caddy is not the problem.

Now on plugging the new hdd into the caddy n then into my usb drive, my computer recognised the device and installed it fine, without any error messages.

Now my problem is that it is not showing up in My Computer as removable storage. Though the hdd is showing in Device Manager under Disk Drives as Toshiba MK6022GAX USB Device

Any ideas on what I need to do?

Just tried other usb slots, restarted and have also uninstalled the device and reinstalled aswell

still not showing in my computer...

Is this a brand new drive never fdisked or formatted?

See if u can get hold of partition magic, and run the windows version
(not the dos floppies).
If the prog can see the drive ... then create a partition & format.

If not, u could get a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter which will allow u to connect
the drive to any pc, which would give u access one way or another.

Thanks for the reply, I got it to work,

right clicked My Computer > Manage > Disk Management

and then found there was no partition atall on the new disk, created a single partition and it works fine

Thanks for the suggestions

I should have said to you clearly right click the drive inside disk management and format:Sorry:

Nah its cool! Figured it out eventually... couldnt format anyway cos the primary partition wasnt in place.

Thanks again

Right click on My Computer.....
Select Manage.....
Select Disk Managment.....
Should autoscan and start the Disk Initialization Wizard....
If it doesn't, right click on disk management and select Rescan Disks...

Sometimes the disk has to be initialized / partitioned (like the old fdisk) and maybe reformatted (doesn't always require formatting) for windows to see it.

Hope this helps
