Hi guys,I've got a ransomware virus on my laptop and I can't do anything with it,I've took my pics and files off that I need and I want to do a full factory reset.
But I'm getting this error message.

The recovery of the operating system is impossible.
Could not find HDD Recovery folder on second drive of the first hard disk.
There is no valid HDD Recovery environment on this computer..

Please help me,what else can I do

would personally wipe the drive & clean install
should always have a clean backup image for such events though

use the Windows iso downloader grab the image version you need burn to disk do clean install

use blank disc if you have one

once lappy sorted use macrium reflect free or whatever & make a back up save you the hassle

if you look in you c drive, you should find a file called windows.old

all your old files will be on there, just delete if there's nothing important you want to recover..

For future reference/peace of mind..... Save all your important stuff to an external source in case you get stuck again.
As has been said, you should have a windows.old file or similar, where you should be able to access your previous files. Though you might have to "claim ownership" of the files using security settings. (the folders may appear empty, but your old files WILL be there)
Be careful though, as you could re-infect your machine.

Thanks for all your help.
I've reinstalled windows, but now I can't get on the internet,I thought it would automatically connect.
It's asking me to install a driver, can anyone tell me where to get this,I don't have an installation cd.
I'm on virgin
Many thanks

do you know the brand for your motherboard? if not download cpu-z, it will tell you your motherboard model - you'd just search for drivers for it under the motherboard brand website.

hi
i downloaded cpu-z,i found my motherboard, installed the wlan, but still nothing.
Ive been on the toshiba website and downloaded numerous wifi drivers, but they dont work.
i dont no what else to do,has anybody else got any suggestions?
Many thanks

stupid question, but is your laptop wireless connection switch on?

hold down the fn "function" key and press the function key with the wifi symbol on it to toggle wifi on and off.

Bottom right hand corner on your task bar, should be a wifi icon when it's switched on
