Hi M8's

Hope someone can help me.

I am beset by popup adverts all of a sudden. When I click on a link I get a a full page advert, sometimes the back arrow is still in top left hand corner and I can use this to get to page I came form. When I click the link again I succeed in getting to correct page. Other time there is no back button and I have to start all over after cancelling the advert. Also every now and again I get this Microsoft Scam you have a virus on your computer phone the number below and a Microsoft engineer will clean your computer. O have tried Kaspersky; Herd Protect; I/Obit Malware Fighter Pro and even the Malicious Malware Removal Software from Microsoft; none of them can find anything on my computer.

If you can offer a solution you will make an old man very happy.

cheers

would run malwarebytes anti-malware spyware blaster spybot search & destroy then look at securing system

I agree with @alimac download and install malwarebytes..
Download and install superantispyware..
Run both..Be aware if you have aggressive malware it may try to stop you installing anti malware software..

once followed above report back & once cleaned
use ublock with Macrium Reflect & Sandboxie for a nice secure system

most computers when booting up if you keep pressing F8 on the keyboard will give you the option to enter safe mode some malware can only be removed this way

If you cannot get F8 to work try
Start button
search run
open up run and input msconfig
choose boot tab
tick safe boot and network
then restart and it will start in safe mode
then when finished undo the above to start in normal mode ok

I would like to thank everyone for their kind offers of advice all of which I have taken on board. I downloaded Malwarebytes and Superantispyware running both one after the other. I have resisted replying to your messages for a while as it would appear that these have removed those dreaded malware ads. I am typing this as quietly as possible so I do not disturb Murphy's Law and they come back to kick me in the teeth. I have also installed Adguard Adblocker on Chrome in the hope that this will help to keep my PC clean.

Just to add salt to my open wound some kind sole has hacked into a major WP site I build for a charity, over 100+ pages over a 5 year period. This was protected by SiteLocker (don't let hackers into your site) software and I use WPbackup but not enough to prevent them from removing every file in the site and destroying my backup restore facility so my daily backups are no good. Been on to my hosting company but they cannot help as they do not back up the site owing to the fact it is on shared hosting and too large a site for them to back up. So I am now faced with trying to rebuild a site in my own time and expense.

Hey Ho life is but a dream sorry nightmare.

But truly thank you again to all my friends for their help

Malwarebytes Scan
Hitman Pro Scan
AdwCleaner Scan
Adblock on browser
and you should be good to go

Just to add to this topic Malwarebytes is good place to start they also have rootkit remover which works well but sometimes depending on how bad your infected its actually quicker to disconnect from internet, back up important stuff and format and reinstall your OS

I assume the hackers haven't securely cleaned the drives they broke into there should be at least some useful recoverable info on there I have managed to recover useful stuff from completely trashed hdd's with various recover software at different times not a magic cure or fix but many documents can be restored if the drive has not had too much written to it since the hacking what I done was purchased a usb cable for using drives as external drives then plugged it in to another pc & worked to retrieve stuff like that

Hi

Just to say thank you to everyone who has tried to help me it is really appreciated and valuable to have friends like you all.

I have now been able to rebuild the site and now store my backup on an external drive instead of where the WP Plug in tries to store them so hopefully will not be faced with this again.

Again thanks M8's for taking time out of your day to offer advice.

regards

Dave

You have to be so careful with Wordpress, it's the most installed CMS system on the planet.

It's a great piece of software, probably the most supported and updated ... and FREE!

But it's the plugins:

Not updated
Badly coded
Resource hogs (badly coded)

Wordpress sites are also the most brute forced (bots that automatically try to solve passwords). So you must have a strong password!

I had a site completely turned into a porn site, in the end I had to completely re-install operating system and install a older Wordpress backup.

Making mistakes is fine, making them again is not lol.

Good luck mate

As already mentioned I would personally format and rebuild my pc.
More for my own piece of mind mate. Wouldn't bother if you are getting a few pop ups etc. but its obviously more than this.

I've lost a couple websites over the years and have managed to recover portions of them using the wayback machine on archive.org but your mileage may vary.

I would suggest that you Install adblock plus extension in google chrome... It will block most of the annoying pop ups. Adblocker ultimate blocks all annoying ads. You can block all types of ads including overlaying ads also.
