hi guys - had an old hp pc laying around, had an old celeron 2.7 intel processer in it, pc was working perfectly well for years just a tad slow... thought id open it up, cleaned heat sink full off dust etc...took heat sink off...removed cpu....just out of curiosity lol...anyway put it all back , now the damm pc wont work..it powers up....and the fan just keeps on...the green light on front of pc stays on...cant turn it off , have to pull the power from behind the pc...made sure everything was connected...cpu is the right way way round as the corner with arrow matches the socket on the motherboard that has the mark...any ideas what i did wrong or is the cpu dead...no beeps or anytrhing , nothiing on monitor as well..

make sure the pins on the CPU are not bent when you put it back

and don't forget the thermal paste

use a magnifying glass and straiten it, as long as it doesn't break it will be OK

magnifying glass...! think i need the hubble telescope to see LOL...anyway i think i bent more pins..binned it...need to upgrade to intel p4 3.06GHZ socket 478 ..thats the max this board can take..

Jeez! did someone Jizz on a CPU in one of those photo's must be the new craze LOL

Well guys put in a new p4 3.0 ghz cpu from a working pc...but same problem, must have done some hairline fracture to the board or something...aaargh!, why didn't I leave it as it was...checked cpu mounted properly no bent pins..all connections seated properly, still nothing fan just spins , can't power off , have to pull power cord from behind...any ideas?

Cant see any leads unplugged, checked each and every lead, all are plugged in where they should be...ive taken the mother board out, can't see anything visibly wrong, put it all back, double checked connections, still the same..

ok looks like my board supports CPU's with an FSB of 400 or 533MHz.. The SL7PM which i purchased has an 800MHz FSB so would not be compatible....duh !...shows you what i know about buses...number 17 from outside my house is the only bus i know, anyway selller will hopefully accept that back and send me the correct one..
