Hi peeps
Have a bit of a problem with my pc at the moment, its hanging during gameplay, system comprises of amd 3200 cpu, pc chips 848alu mb, 1gig 400 (pair of 512's) ddr, ati radeon 256mb gfx.

At first I had gfarce 5 256 installed & heard that these had lock up issues but it still hangs with the ati card.

Could anyone provide me with good pics of the fake & not fake amd 3200 chips just in case i bought a lemon.

Im thinking its the mb cheap as pcchips but not very good for 400 ddr

Any thoughts

Thanks in advance

Does this happen only when playing a particular game ?
Might just be a gfx card driver issue .

No mate, even old games like medal of honour crash & I have changed graphics cards ( 2 differnent manufacturers)

I did notice when I ran the test " cheers for that Damage " my memory is only running at 200 not 400, however when I change the bios settings to allow the cpu & ram to run at 400 it wont even post.

Im thinking this m/board is struggling

Sounds like an overheating processor to me. Install a cpu monitor and check if the temperature of the CPU rises when playing games. "Fanspeed" is reasonable - although it doesn't pick up all boards. PCCHips is not the greatest board either so you might be right, but more than likely its your processor overheating. AMD are known for their overheating issues.

If your board isn't even picking up the right ram speed then you're board might not support it. Try a bios update to the latest version.

The RAM's clock speed expressed on MHz should be equal to the speed of the motherboard's FSB in MHz, otherwise the RAM is being under clocked or overclocked . So, if a particular motherboard has an FSB of 200MHz, it should use DDR400 RAM, which is designed to work with an FSB of 200MHz. But if DDR533 RAM, designed for use on an FSB of 266MHz, is installed, it will run on an FSB of 200MHz, and if the motherboard supports increasing the FSB, you can overclock the FSB up to at least 266MHz, depending on how high the motherboard's BIOS or jumper settings go.

Thanks for the replies, all sorted,
The cpu wasnt even batting an eyelid had all sorts of temp & load monitors running whan I was testing it ! in the end bought a new motherboard £22 excellent value(gigabyte been using there boards for years) & it all runs with no problems, I did read that the pc chips motherboards are very fussy with certain brands of memory, I wouldnt say i have cheap ddr ram but it wasnt the best or most expensive you can buy !

Anyway thanks again !

I had the same problem & same kinda spec but a 9600pro instead. I re-imaged my system but still had problems with hanging, crashing to desktop. I knew then it was hardware related and on mine it turned out to be the TV card interfering with the graphics card
