try hirens bootdisk its got some utilities you can try . try reseating/changing the memory first ?

Some mainboards have a couple of 7-segment displays that show the status. Or even just test points or an LED for power status.

Which Mboard u got M8 , ive had 3/4 Asus mb,s that have no Usb protection and something as simple as a powered hub would fry the buggers instantly !.

Currently doing a memtest and so far so good. Thinking its the mobo as the CPU fan is not being controlled, its running flat out all the time. Where it used to start fast then slow down.

have you reset bios as some fan controllers can be turned off in the bios

Done a full reset, I am thinking its the motherboard.

It not reporting any temperatures (probably why the fan is running full chat) or voltages. So it looks like I need a new compatible MOBO for my hardware. 2nd hand eBay here I come.

Any reccomendations from eBay guys? Cheap as chips would be nice.

Thanks for the offer @Essef, but I managed to get sorted out. I found a local IT recycler where I managed to get an older i5 for pennies.
