Bought a 2nd hand Dell Inspirion 531 desktop off Gumtree running 64 bit windows 7 with 4 GB Ram Which I'm happy with but what I'm wondering is I've done a search on the net and it says the Max ram for this PC is 4gb but when I looked inside it has 4 ram slots which has a 2gb stick and x2 1gb sticks,so I have a spare slot and was wondering if I could add some more ram seeing as there's still a spare slot [emoji6]

Dont know if you ever got to the bottom of this but it will work with a maximum of 8gb, I currently have 4x2gb sticks of ram installed, that was what I was told to use and it works fine.

That's it, never trust in manufacturers specs, the best way to really know is just testing, and in most of the cases the system can handle more memory than advertised, in processor 775 era was common to use 3gb in mobos advertising as 2gb max, 6 and 8 gb in mobos advertised as 4gb... with VIA and Intel chipsets I used sometimes more memory than chipset supports officialy, but some mobos needs updated BIOS or modded ones...
