Guys I loaded XP now the computer will not shut down using the shut down command from the start menu it just restarts I have to use the mains switch on the front panel to shut down Does anybody know of any fixes

have you tried scan disk, it seems like the menu is accessing the wrong file (lol trust windows to do something like that)

just an idea that would be the first thing to try ????

You may also have some more problems to look forward to, if you have an Elvis programmer. As some people are having difficulty getting it into phoenix mode under XP.
Also causing problems with some writers.
XP stands for Experienceโ€ฆGood Luck m8

Your not having much luck with XP are you m8??

I would try removing all of you PCI cards and see if it shuts down then...it may be a conflicting IRQ with the power managment or something....then replace them one at a time.

You could also try changing a few things in the BIOS power managment!

If all else fails have a look at the microsoft knowledge base at MSI....it could be a known problem?

i had the same problem thought i had a virus ran it as a secondery master on another comp and ran norton anti virus no virus at all, put it back in then it would'nt even start up!!
i tryed reinstalling it it would'nt work so i put win me back on. its one of thoses things a bug in winxp they really need to fix...

Just go back to win me allroad as XP is still in the testing stage........iv try it, professional and upgrade for win me both are(bull) at the moment.
Stick with good old win me for the time.......Gazer

this is a common fault with xp win 98 was exactly the same try searching microsoft site for whats called shutdown patch well thats what it was called for 98

hmmm i have had some really strange problems with XP and i think i agree go back to win 98 / me whatever you got or used to use that software is a pain in the arse

I loaded xp on took about 75 mins to load when came to type in my name the keyboard had gone and i couldn't do any thing with it the mouse worked but not the keyboard so i have gone back to the trusty me.i will forget about xp.

Is anyone else here running win2k or is it just me??? I like xp, but i'm suprised how many of you seem to be using ME or 98, 2000 is soooo stable.

Just a query on this subject guys.Is there any real reason or benefit why we should all upgrade from win 98/2000 to xp.I know xp looks nice cos my m8s got it, or is it microsoft exploiting human nature,as all companys do and get u to go out and buy the newest thing that comes out?I still use win 98 SE and dload the latest fixes inc IE6 whenever they come available and am very happy with an extremely stable(clocked) system.Regards all Carl.

Up to you m8. I'm dual booting 2k and XP. The first thing i did was change the XP front end to the 2k style. I do like XP, but I still can;t bring myself to format my 2k partition.
