Hi,

I have recently downloaded a game that was made in 1999. I could not get it to work at all on my system (windows 2000, NTFS) or the other one downstairs (XP, NTFS). I checked the help file with the game and even though it was made in 1999, it says that it needs windows 95 to run.

Is there any way of getting this to run on my upstairs pc, the win 2000, NTFS?? I downloaded what i thought was a pure DOS emulator (oldskool), but it would not run using that.

I know that i can partition the computer and have 95 on it aswell as 2000, but to be honest ivve only just got comfortable with this computer and i dont want to start messing around with it again!!! It hasnt had to be formatted since November, so theres a hell of a lot of information and customized settings on here.

thanks

The main problem is that win2000/xp are based on winnt4 which doesnt allowe the software to directly address the hardware like dos/win95 does, this is part of the security system, everything has to go via the operating system.
This is the main reason it wont run.
There is a little utility in win2000/xp (but for the life of me i cant remember where it is) that allows u to run certain programs in win95 mode there is no garrantee any programs will work. Ill have a play and see if i can find it.........or if anybody else can remember the cmd.

If you right click on the executable file in Win XP and select "properties", "compatibility" then tick "Run the program in compatibilty mode for:" Select "Windows 95" from the drop-down menu, press ok and hey presto.
Personally I've not had any luck when trying this, but worth a go.

What game is it anyway. I've had some games that were made before that working on 2k and xp with patches which have been brought out for them since the introduction of these os's

thats it "the bard" i was looking at shortcut u have to do it on the exe file.....its worth a shot.
