Hi all,

the title pretty much sums up the problem.

The laptop in question dosn't have a wlan switch, instead using the key combination Fn+F8 its supposed to switch the wifi of and on.

I can enable/disable it from the BIOS, but that kind of defeats the purpose for the average user when they are out and about.

I dont know if it was working before reinstaling win7 sp1 as by the time it came to me, the recovery partition had been wiped (linux install). But the Fn key functions like vol+ & vol-, screen brightness + & - are working fine.

So far searching the web has listed lots of similar problems, just no solutions.

Anyone ?

cheers csb

don't know about the keyboard but some laptops need proprietary utilities loaded to get certain shortcut keys to work.

but if you have an intel based wireless card the intel proset utility will allow you to enable/disable the wireless from its system tray icon with a right click.

Thanks,

been down that route, and by the sound of it so have many others.

I did download/install a toshiba utility, that had the option (from w7 start menu) to switch on/off the feature, it just dosn't get the information to the hardware.

The laptop is using a 3G dongle (Orange) and I'm starting to think that it may be taking control of the wifi, and disabling the OS from controlling it.

I think there should be an option in windows that allows you to decide if a 3rd party driver or windows controls wifi settings.

I've been through the normal device manager settings and nothing stands out as an option.

Its not show stopper, more a ball breaker (only went to fix some dodgy dowload that was prentending to be a MS Ativirus program, and locked up their machine). I know it's not mine and will probably spend its life plugged into the mains anyway, but a, genuine license, clean install and all updates from MS. Toshiba quality mmm

Thanks again
