hi guys - my daughter laptop is dead, i think the dc jack is knackered, anyway, i can take the hardrive out and put it in my laptop, but it wont boot up..starts loading windows then blue screen appears...reboots, and advises to "repair system"...which i do but after trying to repair it says it cannot repair...any ideas how i could recover stuff, ie files, pictures etc from the har drive before i reformat the drive aand sell it for spares or repairs..ta

You'd be best to get a caddy device so you could hook the hard drive up to your laptop via a usb and see if you can access the files or at least run some software like getdataback.

Worth the cost of the caddy as there not that much and if the data is important.

This is handy as it is usb to IDE / Sata etc so you may get more use out of it in future :proud:

Unless you and your daughter had the same model laptop your daughter's install won't have the correct drivers to boot in your laptop. As leemoo says slap it in a caddy...

lol..never thought of that...i assumed if the hard drive fitted into my laptop it would be ok to boot up...both lappys are toshiba.although different models..looks like ill have to get a caddy...cheers guys//
