I have a laptop which is about 18 months old and appears to be on it's last legs. It works fine for about 10 minutes then the screen starts to flash white. This gets worse with time until it's completely unusable. Has anyone come across this before? Is it salvageable?

I don't seem to have much luck with the blumming things!:Chainsaw:

You might be able to save it by cleaning the cpu and applying some new artic silver paste just like you do with an xbox360

also clean the fan and the motherboard with a small paint brush to be honest people say buy air canisters and stuff ?

I even stick the hoover on mine and use a normal paint brush seems to work fine never had any problems.

theres also settings in your bios to close down your pc when it over heats you can actually turn this saftey thing off, but I wouldnt advise it but I have done it in the past to get past just to see what happens.

problem with a lot of compaq/hp is that to get to the fan you have to strip the laptop down and then you may find as i did the fans heatsink fins were completely covered with dust/hair which was almost like felt... mine was only 9 months old at the time..( i was a compaq engineer till hp came along) if you go down that road get a good quality heat transfer paste for the cpu cooler if you have to remove it from the cpu. if your not scared to try it yourself use another pc and search youtube for a video on how to strip your laptop.
