The computer my kids use at their mums is really slow. I suggested she buy some plug in internet plugs so that they could run the xbox and my daughter's notebook upstairs without having to boot up the old pc. She bought the plugs and asked me to help her sort them out. I thought that would be easy but when I plugged them in on the old pc to test, there appear to be two internet connections - one which I can repair and get data flowing on and another which won't do anything. It talks about FTP settings but I have no idea where I would alter those settings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What Os is the computer?

What plugs did you get?

To try and speed the pc up a bit try running Iobits Advanced Systemcare. It will speed the pc up without doubt and is one of the most useful free utilities you can get

OS is xp. I got the 85mbs plugs, cant remember the make but I use the same ones for xbox and laptop myself and they both work a treat. Will take a look at your recommendation for speeding up her pc. Thanks

If you are ok with regedit then try this

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK

Locate and then click the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

If IGMPVersion appears in the list change its Value Data to (3)

edit, modify

Type 3

click OK.

Close regedit

If IGMPVersion does not appear in list then

Edit

new

DWORD Value

type IGMPVersion

press ENTER

edit, modify

Type 3

click OK.

Close regedit

Now see if you can connect

Let us know how you get on

Will do mate, won't be able to test until Monday but I will let you know how that goes, thank you. What exactly is that doing? I'm a computer dinosaur as you can tell!
