I have an Acer (Windows 7) that is incredibly ill at the moment. It boots up to the user screen, but after that it bluescreens every time!

It will boot into safe mode, and occasionally into safe mode with networking but nothing else.

When it first happened I did manage to get it to boot up and I got the error message that C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Q72RV04V14.DLL was missing.

Now when I have had a missing dll before I have managed to download the same on from the internet, but on this occasion I can't find the offending dll.

Anyone help at all?

i would start by doing a clean install fresh from a disc

alot of these "install partitions" where you hit a button durin boot and it will restore can get corrupt, so you can sometimes have the problem repeat, its best to reinstall from a disc fresh and start from there, if problem still presists it could be hardware...

using that dumpviewer you could probably find the driver that is causing the problem and start from there,

Nope. As its a virtually new lappy I havent felt the need to even go into the bios mate.

Napster, at what point do you press alt then F10?. I did try it as it was booting but all I got was a loooooooong beep!

When it bluescreens I see the message DRIVER IQRL NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Wtf???

turn on laptop and press alt f10 same time till it bleeps then it should work, if thats not working could be a bad problem, what model laptop is it, need make and model number and will have a look about for you.

Thanks everyone for doing all this thinking lol! I do appreciate it.

Its an Acer Aspire 5742Z mate.

Right, save your energy and download a ready built version of UBCD4Win (Ultimate boot CD) or the latest version of Knoppix.

Both of these are Windows/Linux versions that run directly from a DVD (which you have to obviously boot from).

Once booted you can then access your HDD and drag/drop anything you want to backup onto a pendrive or similar.

Trusted tools that every windows user should have.

:)

UBCD for Windows

Knoppix Linux Boot CD, Download Disk and Documents, Discuss, Get Help

my son had the same message, tried a complete recovery, Sony Viao BTW, still the same, then after alot of digging about, found that it was the wifi driver/s it has an Atheros wireless, so d/loaded latest driver and bullied the lappy into installing it, after a 24hr soak test all seemed ok, and, touch wood, he ain't complained about it since. I seem to remember it was caused by the new service pack update for win7 so switched of auto updates and select them manually. Another usefull CD is Bart PE, a bit old but another tool to help

Thanks, but even the Acer factory reset wont work on this F*$$^*. Pressed ALT & tapped away at F10 but the Acer recovery screen doesnt come up, just a windows boot prompt!!

You can still use knoppix pal, or i can upload a prebuilt UBCD4Win if you want

found this m8 try it

Using the HDD Recovery System
Your Advent computer uses the latest recovery system that doesn't require any CDs or DVDs to restore your PC to it's original factory condition.

There are two ways to start the recovery -
Restart your computer. Then Press F10 repeatedly until the message "Starting System Recovery" is displayed.
In Windows by clicking: Start / All Programs / System Recovery / System Recovery.
The recovery will load and display a box with one option:
Non-destructive recovery: this option will restore Windows, supplied applications, and drivers. This option will not destroy your documents or programs. These will be backed up along with the registry. These are restored at the end of the recovery process.
To access the recovery options below that erase all data from the computer, click the Advanced button.
System Recovery - No format: this will reinstall Windows, supplied applications and drivers. It will move your files to a folder called "My old disk structure". Any applications (except those supplied) will need to be reinstalled.
System Recovery - Quick format: this option will erase your hard drive including your personal files. Windows, supplied applications and drivers will be reinstalled.
Select the Non-destructive recovery option and press Next.
You will be informed about System Restore in Windows, click Yes.
The recovery will begin. Once this is complete click Restart.

i can upload a prebuilt UBCD4Win if you want

That would be great if you could please mate.

This will tell you what the cause of the BSOD is :)

Thanks, if I can get it working with networking I'll look at that and report back.

How about this, in safe mode there is an acer restore program. I chose the factory reset option. It warned me that all data on the c drive would be wiped. I hit the button cos by now I'm so pissed off that I was beyond caring about the consequences. It rebooted.... and its just the bloody same!!!!

If this is somekind of virus its a bloody good one :(

Uploading them here now pal, you need to burn them to disk and then boot from the disk itself.

Try the F4UBCD one first, it is superb.

Upload should be finished 6pm ish i reckon.

:)

EDIT: tell you what, a link might help lol !
