Bought a laptop for my daughter off laptopsdirect a
Packard Bell Easynote tj65. From the off the laptop has been randomly freezing, blank screens, blue screens, switches off randomly. Has anyone else had any dealings with this mob. Should i expect fireworks?. The 3 month warranty is almost up. They better not fob me off till after the 3 months is up.
Just a bit pissed off and looking for some advise on how to deal with this.

it shouldnt do any of the things you have said...

get in touch with them as soon as posible by email and phone and get them to log your call. they should give you a returns number mate as well.

bought a laptop off them last xmas for my mom's present total bunch of cowboys.

Sent me the case ok but i had to take a day off work to sign for the laptop as they wouldn't deliver to my office. i had to ring customer support 4 times (and emailed them) to find out what was going on, each time i was told it had been shipped and could arrive anything up to about half an hour after there customer support help line was closed. Next day i ring them to be told the laptop was out of stock (you'd think they would have know that when i ordered 3 days previously) and the next nearest model was £40 more expensive for a worst spec and had to be vista (mom's nearly 70 and its take her years to get to grips with XP) i told them i wanted a refund which i got minus the delivery charge and the replacement model i told them i didn't want they tried to deliver 2 days latter. After yet more calls i was then told it was my responsibility to get the one sat at the couriers and send it back to them (at my cost) and there would be a restock fee. Even though i had emails agreeing the refund and the cancelled order. It was only when i told them i worked in local gov and would they like me to go see my friends upstairs in the trading standards office i got anywhere. They still charged me the the courier fee but by this time i'd had enough. Payback however is a bitch so i got them blacklisted as a supplier to the authority i work for. we bought nearly 200 laptops last year for various projects and replacing old kit :proud:

get your money back sharpish and like Ratts said get everything written down and logged and don't let them fob you off. Its obviously unfit for purpose and i just wouldn't risk them trying to fix it or they'll somehow make it something you've installed or updated and not there problem.

phoned them up and they told me to do a factory reset, it worked for a couple of days.(its my teenage daughters laptop so communication from her is poor). then for 2 days the laptop would'nt switch on at all. i phoned them up again, by this time the 3 month guarantee had ran out and they offered me their repair service. i explained that this was an ongoing problem from day 1 and i had phoned and emailed them about this problem in the past. still no joy.
due to the random nature of the fault i suspected the motherboard and inquired what the cost of a new motherboard would be. £350. I nearly choked. the laptop cost £350.

Heres the happy ending. I spoke to a friend who suggested the fault is more likely the memory or hard drive. I downloaded and ran MEMTEST and it flagged up i had a fault in one of my 2gb ram sdrams. the laptop is running as sweet as a nut with just 1 2gb of ram. i can get a replacement off fleabay for £20.

i reckon theres an open on one of the bga's. i'm going to take it into work and reflow all the bga's.

I would not take the crap from them and get them to sort out the problem themselves. Evidently it was a problem that was present at the time of purchase, and you reported it to them, and under the sale of goods act 1979 they are legally obliged to put it right themselves, the act covers you for 6 years from the sale of the goods.

If you want to at least fire a warning shot into them I can pm you the appropriate letter to send them. You could then, if you wish, take them to the small claims court if they do not pay up.

I know it's a small amount but they are counting on your ignorance of your rights under the above mentioned act and their perceived, bigger than you syndrome, immunity to do anything for you.

For your info I did do such a thing re my car and some shoddy repair practices carried out by a garage 4 years ago. They lost heavily and it was good to see the looks on their faces when the judge told them so and made them pay up and +
