Ever since upgrading to Win7 64bit, I've noticed that transferring anything via USB was incredibly slow. I checked everything out and couldn't find a problem so I replaced my USB cables as I assumed they had all magically became faulty at once.

Obviously this made fook all difference.

I logged onto the XFX website and downloaded the very latest drivers for my motherboard, didn't help, Windows Update offered me alternative drivers but these made no difference either.

Then one day I installed XP Pro 32Bit as a dual boot. Amazingly my USB transfers rocketed in speed, right up to proper USB2.0 speeds, so I know my hardware is fine.

As soon as I booted into Win7 64Bit my USB speeds would once again drop to speeds well below USB1.1, we're talking seriously slow here, for instance a 780mb Divx movie would take almost 3 HOURS to transfer onto my Buffalo external 1TB HDD and about 10 minutes longer if transferring to a Memory stick etc.

So, all my drivers are bang up to date, I have all the latest Windows Updates etc, the external USB devices run at full speed if I use WinXP 32bit and on all my laptops they are also fast as hell, so where does that leave me?

I've installed this exact same copy of Win7 64Bit in all my friends and families machines and they don't have any trouble with it, but they all have Brand name PC's like Dell, ACER, Sony etc.

I reckon it's a bug in Win7 64bit which only effects certain hardware.

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I'd email Microsoft but I'm still using a Pirate copy. :)

Every port mate.

All my ports are enabled for USB2.0 in the Bios.

And every port is terribly slow.

Cheers mate :)

So it's a real problem and I'm not imagining it :)

yep it's real, bugged the hell out of me so much I bought a PCI USB card, which would not fit since GFX card cooler covered the free PCI slot, so I had then had to buy a riser cable, anyway, then after umpteen google searches found that they had just released a hotfix, about 2 months ago.

Don't think it even shows up in windows updates.

lol.

Guess what, it didn't work!

I've been Googling and found loads of people with the same problem, looks like Microsoft were trying to keep this one quiet, lol. I've found a loads of people who said the HotFix didn't work for them either, so it looks like it'll be Win7 32bit for me from tomorrow.

Loads of people also said they had 4Gb of Ram and this has an effect on the problem, same as me.

Ive tried w7 three times on with no success no my 64bit pc.the cpu runs at around 95% to 100% (fan running all the time) also usb ports don't work. can some one upload the fix to megaup or rapid share for me to try thanks

@WP - shame , worked for me, origional m$ link, there is a memory fudge around, see this link, the bcedit thing. Also still have a not used anymore 4 port usb card, you can have it if you want,a nd have a free PCI slot.

@dog - files attached to my post in this thread, if cannot get will up to zshare.
