Ever since upgrading to Win7 64bit, I've noticed that transferring anything via USB was incredibly slow. I checked everything out and couldn't find a problem so I replaced my USB cables as I assumed they had all magically became faulty at once.
Obviously this made fook all difference.
I logged onto the XFX website and downloaded the very latest drivers for my motherboard, didn't help, Windows Update offered me alternative drivers but these made no difference either.
Then one day I installed XP Pro 32Bit as a dual boot. Amazingly my USB transfers rocketed in speed, right up to proper USB2.0 speeds, so I know my hardware is fine.
As soon as I booted into Win7 64Bit my USB speeds would once again drop to speeds well below USB1.1, we're talking seriously slow here, for instance a 780mb Divx movie would take almost 3 HOURS to transfer onto my Buffalo external 1TB HDD and about 10 minutes longer if transferring to a Memory stick etc.
So, all my drivers are bang up to date, I have all the latest Windows Updates etc, the external USB devices run at full speed if I use WinXP 32bit and on all my laptops they are also fast as hell, so where does that leave me?
I've installed this exact same copy of Win7 64Bit in all my friends and families machines and they don't have any trouble with it, but they all have Brand name PC's like Dell, ACER, Sony etc.
I reckon it's a bug in Win7 64bit which only effects certain hardware.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
I'd email Microsoft but I'm still using a Pirate copy.
